Or do you think his current role of best 8th man in college basketball history is working?

Should be to set the tone of the game. I know some players play better coming off the bench but I don't think it matters with Quickley he is good no matter what. Brooks isn't really a threat to score Quickley is.

Any line up that doesn’t include both Brooks and EJ would be fine with me. Brooks gets lost out there, but at least he gives effort. EJ might be the most frustrating player I can remember.

EJ Montgomery is too weak. He should've been in the weight room. He gets pushed around too easily.

There are fans that get more excitement when they feel they have more ammunition to say “Cal stinks and I’m right” than they do when we win. This thread is already proving it. Their post count picks up, they start more threads, etc. when we lose. They’d rather say “see, I’m right” than UK win. It’s why you can’t take any of them seriously.

The only reason IQ shouldn't be starting is if he himself told Cal he'd like to come in off the bench.

Other than that, there is absolutely no excuse for Brooks and Whitney getting in the game before him.

No. Cal isn't God. Stop acting like he is. If IQ started, UK would have won and this would be a non-issue.

You're not making any sense. I think you may have posted in the wrong thread.

So it’s as simple as IQ starting last night even though we were in control the 1st half. Enjoy the loss. As usual, you’ll be much more active from now until Saturday than you would have been. Saying “Cal is no good and I told you so” invigorates you.

OP's question is valid. Here's my thoughts:
1- I trust Cal's judgment. He has a reason.
2- Not starting is working for IQ. Why risk changing it?
3- We need more than 5 or we are dead in March.
4- (Maybe) Cal thinks starting Brooks keeps the door open for him to find himself.

But it's not working. Brooks seems to be a multi year guy. He isn't doing anything special. Heck, as big as him and EJ are, you don't even know they're on the court most of the time.

Put IQ in the damn lineup and punch the opponent in the mouth right off the tip.

Those are legitimate arguments. I know he is trying to get Brooks/ Whitney going. Maybe he will.

He played 34 minutes, more than anyone on the team. Non-issue.
Totally agree.
And we need at least ONE player coming off the bench that can contribute.
And not starting doesn’t seem to bother Quickley!
We got off to a good start last night, it was the ending that doomed us!

I believe Cal knows he needs to get at least one of the 3 between Whitney/Brooks/Juzang going before March.
There will be a game in March where foul trouble causes one or more of those guys to play extended minutes.
If Cal waits til then it’s like throwing them to the wolves.

We could definitely use some IQ in the starting lineup, because our basketball IQ is not good at all. We have great athletes, but basketball smarts are lacking. Oh....you mean Immanuel Quickley.

U say that, but we struggled mightily offensively the first 5 minutes or so. We played amazing defense (usc had 0 points and started like 0-10 or something). Instead of being up 6-0 we could’ve been up a lot more with our best 5 on the court. It’s all in hindsight, but who knows if we punch them in the mouth and get up 15-0 or something like that. I just wish he’d play his best 5 as much as possible and stop worrying about the dreams of these freshmen who are nowhere near ready.

He’s playing his best 5 the most.
We were up 15 in the 2nd half.
He has to get at least one of the 3 Whitney/Brooks/Juzang going by March. There will be a time one of those guys will have to play extended minutes due to foul trouble.

Didn't say that, let me spell it out for you, UK did not lose because Quickley didn't start the game. I am not the only poster refuting your point either. You need to quit while you are behind

UK did lose.

Pat and Nance made sure.

Not playing your best and allowing the other team to hang in despite not scoring, is not that great of a plan.

I have been faithfully following the Cats since Rupp was our coach. I never remember a team when maybe the the best player on the team, certainly the most consistent, did not start. I love Cal but this is perplexing to me. Quickley should be in the game at the start and finish and as many minutes as possible in between.

“Ah, the world is good again. UK lost and I get to say “I told you so” until at least Saturday! I’m going to get the band back together. Woo Hoo! First order of business: Grab a cup of Joe, plant a seed (poll) of negativity while sarcastically taking a shot at Cal and then I’ll sit back and watch the negative vibes swirl. Ahhh, this is so awesome! You know guys, I haven’t posted much lately since we were winning but now I’ve and my clan of doomsday’s are back in control! Life is good!”

Tweaking the starting line up makes me a doomsday nut.

This is what is wrong in modern times. People make absurd claims about a slight criticism. There is nothing even close to doomsday about suggesting IQ should start.

You can't even have a thought without the defenders of all things Cal claiming you want him replaced.

Suggesting Quickley starts has people all riled up? Amazing.
