32 of 68 teams in the field is taken up by AQ. 34 "at large".
"First 4 out" schools are approx ranked as the 50th best teams overall in a tournament of 68 teams.

I'm fine with all conferences getting an AQ.
Most leagues give AQ for division winners - but most don't have such wide disparity or so many conferences and teams.
CFB (until next year) was a hold out in AQ in the playoffs. Best of the best - no shortcuts. But even they have caved a bit (6AQ in 12 team playoff).

Wonder if others disagree.
