Shoot The Ball If You Are Open

In Coach's post game press conference he had told guys to shoot the ball if they are open or pass it if not. “I told these guys at halftime that they were hesitant after they missed a few shots. I told them, don’t be hesitant. If you’re open, shoot the ball. If you’re not, pass the ball,” Pikiell said.

Where many on the board don't want some guys to shoot, I hope our guys keep shooting if they are wide open. Making an an extra pass because you are afraid of missing, does not do us any good and usually just allows the defense to adjust and we then take a defended forced shot. Paul made most of the same shots last year that he has been missing this year.

If you are wide open, shoot the ball! Even if you miss, there is a chance we get the offensive rebound..........

Best of Luck,
Groz

There is a reason some of them are open. A lot of our guys just aren’t good shooters but I agree you also need to be a threat out there.

Everybody's cold now, and even when they're not cold there really aren't shooters on this team. So, yeah, if you're open, shoot.

This is the reverse of last year…we were on fire shooting then we went ice cold for our stretch of losses

if we can still win these games while cold shooting I’ll take it. Just come lights out when we get to B1G play

To be fair, we were cold shooting wise in our non-con then caught fire at the start of B1G then cooled off

The players are lacking confidence right now. That is why they are passing up shots. They'll feel better about themselves when shots start to drop.

If a player passes up an open shot he is making offense much harder … now his pass has to be good, the player he passes to has to make a clean catch and be in a position to get another open shot … open shots don’t come up all the time during a possesion. TAKE the open shot

Defensively, our opponents want to leave some of these guys open and are begging them to launch a three attempt. It will be like that all year.

PM's first instinct is to pass the ball even when he is inches away from the basket. Sadly in year 3, I don't see that changing.

Great OP...

How many times have we said "shooters have to shoot" when they are in a slump. We know Paul had a tendency in prior years to turn down open shots to pass.

If you cannot shoot your way out of a slump in a particular game, perhaps continuing to shoot will mean next game they will drop.

Wat to go PIKE. We need Geo and PM and others to score. We need baskets and if they are open they should shoot.

Let us hope everyone starts hitting a normal percentage of open shots or better... soon.

Name of the game today is three-point shooting and three-point defense. We must be good at both... and you cannot get there by not shooting.
