Get him out of here, get a fresh start. How many times over the past 10 years did we have a terrible defense... so I don't understand the fear of not playing defense (sirmon, diaz 2.0) Get someone that fits Leach's personality and practice style or you could have oil and water. I think half this board could've coached the 2018 roster to top 10 in the county in total defense...

I would much rather have him than Todd Orlando. Shoop has the number 1 defense just a year ago and this year basically half the starting lineup was suspended or injured. On top of that, the other side of the ball did absolutely nothing to help him.
How many times did we basically have freshmen DL? We did not look good this year, but I don't think that's all on Shoop, just like the 2018 performance wasn't due to shoop. The cake was mostly baked with the talent (or lack thereof). We seemed to have blown coverages and missed tackles a lot, but the latter part especially happens a lot more when you lack talent.
I'm more concerned with the culture on the team and whether Shoop can help turn it around or if his authority/credibility with the players has been irreparably damaged by being part of the Moorhead cluster17
Right. We’ve seen what Shoop can do when he has talent, so I’m not sure why some of our fans are so quick to run him off after one subpar season when he had a roster full of youth. It all started with the D line, but after taking suspensions and injuries into account, we had inexperienced guys playing all over the field by the end of the year.
I’m worried as hell about the offense next year, but the defense should see some improvement. If it doesn’t, it’s fine with me for Shoop to be the scapegoat

If you can get Charlie strong you have too. Although i think shoop has the personality that would mesh with Leach, Charlie strong is an elite DC. Plus he is an elite recruiter.
Exactly. His decision. Shoop is good. Grantham is good. Strong is good. Why not leave things the same to reduce transition ? Leach is gonna hire whoever he thinks he can work with the best.

Strong hasn't called a defense since Leach was at Tech. He WAS an elite DC. Schemes have changed over the last decade and we no longer really know that for sure.
I think Shoop is a highly competent DC and I won't be mad if he's retained. If Leach wants to go a different direction, so be it.

Exactly right and that inexperienced defense played LSU better than any other defense in the nation
The guy installed Toughness Tuesday b/c he found out our head coach was soft as Charmin. Tutorgate hit Shoop the hardest, not Moorhead. He played some very inexperienced guys last season. Shoop is not a bad DC. When your offensive genius head coach can't put more than 20 points on the board it demands a lot of the defense.
That's because he was following Peter Sirmon. When you go from incompetent to competent, you will see a big jump. Shoop took virtually that same defense and made them #1. That's a bigger deal to me than Grantham not being Peter Sirmon.
The verdict is still out on him for me. I wasn't excited AT ALL when he was hired, track record just wasn't that good especially at TN. Given 3 first round NFL choices bailed him out for a year. Then, last year when he didn't have anything it was back to ground zero. Therefore, to me he hasn't shown me much but hasn't pissed me off either. The DB's are where I'm REALLY worried for next year, they were not good last year and were atrocious in the bowl.

Tennessee and last year are literally the only years he has not been successful. He had Vandy at number 15 one year, and never below 44. If you can make Vandy a top 30 defense (which he did 2 out of 3 years), then you know how to coach. Next year without Tutorgate would go a long way to showing more of what we could typically expect with Shoop.
and he spent a **** ton of time at Georgia and Florida.... zero #1 defenses

I like Shoop if for no other reason than continuity. Whoever the DC is they are going to be relying HEAVILY on true and redshirt sophomores (Pickering, Lovett, Crumedy, Emerson, Jones, whoever plays LB). Then again, you could also make the arugment that you get a new guy in now and just accept this season as a learning curve all the way around. Hard to tell what the captain will do. Don't know who he's worked with in the past and from afar it just doesn't seem like D has ever been of major importance to him. Philosophy is definitely changing in Starkville.
It will be a bad opinion, and I will get downvoted, but Sirmon could have had the #1 d with what we had 2 years ago. Shoop showed us that he couldnt do **** with marginal talent. I for one hope he is not retained
Wow! What from our 110th ranked defense gives you confidence that he wouldn’t have squandered the talent from the 2018 defense. That guy was so far over his head. I love how people just seem to think that this year is a better example of how Shoop coaches than the previous 8 years and ignore the actual adversity that did happen on that side of the ball. Unlike the offense which Moorhead tried to use as an excuse for his poor performance. Again, he had the number 15 defense at Vandy. That is what he can do with marginal talent. Anyone who is having to rely on as many freshman as we were is not going to put a top defense out there, especially while his offense is going 3 and out every other series.

How did he do at TN? Oh I forgot it was Butch's fault. And it was Joe's fault we got beat deep 3-4 times a game and gave up 6 ypc
Bob Shoop’s bend until the end defense will not work with Mike Leach’s offensive out put. The concern has never been will Air raid offense work in the sec.. it can. The question should be will a defense work with leach’s offense in the SEC. you need strong.
Bartoo also said Joe Moorhead was an A hire and that Barry Odom was a good head coach. His little system is flawed. That being said I’d be intrigued by Charlie Strong and would be alright with him.

On paper joe Moorhead was an A hire. Sometimes it just doesn’t fit. Also, Barry Odom is a damn good HC. He should still be a Missouri. I think they’ll regret firing him in a few years

You turned on Jomo a little earlier than the rest of us, But the majority were on the fence going into the LSU game. He turned up his practices realizing his shorts were on fire and both sides of the ball looked good for a half. You cant use that game to judge us, that was an emotional game. We had the chem 10 playing against usm and our d looked like ****. rinse repeat for TN. I know it was Joe's team, but for me, the d was as much or more of an issue as the offense was even when we had the chem 10 in.
I'm kinda feeling like you needed to just let the alcohol go ahead and put you to sleep last night (this morning). Your thoughts?
