Lol

I'd almost like to see Baker, Kiss, Omoruyi, Carter, Johnson.

Not feeing extremely confident about Thiam at the moment.

First McConnell, now Carter . . . .slowly all of the new guys are emerging as contributors. We are building quality depth and inching closer to Big 10 basketball relevancy.

Surprisingly strong performance by Shaq tonight. Bodes well for the rest of the season.

Early in the game I was thinking: "We have a Shaq Carter sighting", but as he continued to play solid minutes and contribute, I became encouraged that we have someone who can play his share of minutes, without a huge dropoff.

If I remember correctly, he had one move where he received the ball in the post, split two defenders with a nice move, got the basket along with a foul. Would love to see more of that out of him!

Carter has soft hands and is good around the basket in traffic. Had a couple of breakdowns on defense where he rotated late and Wisconsin is Princeton-esque with their passing.

Not overly surprised because Wisconsin didn't offer a shot blocking menace like some others we will see. But he looked more comfortable on the handoffs and screen action, similar to Myles and Shaq are getting better at.

I think the staff is "stacking"....that's my own term for building the offense around 1 to 2 pieces and finding small creases within the offense to find things that some players do well.

We have competition at the 4 and 5, which is extremely important for this long season.

No I'm not being sarcastic. I think Pikiell knew Shaq could contribute significant minutes in Big Ten play - why show his hand before conference play.
Show what hand? Shaq is a banger. Guys like him are a dime a dozen in the B1G. Do you think Wisconsin was shocked by his dynamic skill set? Wisconsin sees plenty of Shaq Carter types.

Look, the kid played very well tonight, but it's 1 game and a welcome surprise, especially with the stagnation of Doucoure. Let's not make him out to be something he's not. The reality is, it's taken him some time to get used to power 5 hoops. He's starting to get it. A good sign, but expect some setbacks along the way.

Shaq needs to play. Not sure what’s been going on there.

He did not look good in the earliest games

Perhaps he is just fitting in now and playing better, both in practice and games.

As simple as that. If he keeps it up we will see a lot of him

Probably a little slow to get what Pikiell wants on offense and defense. Myles Johnson in Year 2 had the upper hand.

I am happy for him to the team a lift and competition at the 4 and 5 is fantastic. Having said all that I'd prefer to see Johnson with his size and 3 2/3 years left ultimately win the minutes.

The idea of “hiding”Shaq C doesn’t make sense to me, but I’m baffled why a guy with no experience at this level didn’t get ten minutes in the early games where it was easily available.

Yeah I agree. VERY confused on the lack of OOC play then he comes in and looks very formidable. Loved his play

A few weeks ago Pike commented that the veterans were “out veteraning” Shaq C.

I think it’s just a case of him being a little slow to pick up the system on one end of the floor or both. Whatever the case, let’s hope yesterday was a break out game for him rather than a fluke performance because he showed a low post offensive potency that neither Shaq D. or Myles have. If he can keep playing like that we’ll be a better team because of it.

Coaches, contrary to the Iverson's of the world, put a ton of stock in practice. The guys who perform, play.

If a guy isn't in trouble for off court stuff, it's almost always the answer as to why a player isn't playing. They simply aren't showing enough in practice.

Carter has skills. But he still needs time to acclimate.

Playing time is earned. If he didn't earn it, I'm glad he didn't get it. Game minutes are precious and MUST be earned through effort and execution during practice. If you just start giving minutes to "see what he can do", you're sending the wrong message to your players, and will ultimately lead to division in the locker room.

If you mean something attitudinal, I agree. If you're talking level of performance in pracice, I dont. We had at least three blowout games. Getting him in for a few minutes here and there. if you're looking for him to contribute own the road, is the thing to do and what is best for the team..

Why not throw in Luke Nathan? What about Nick Brooks or Joey Downs? Look around the NCAA. That's not how it works. This isn't Saturday morning rec basketball.
I guess they’ll be needed during the season, like SC will, and that all of a sudden v UW he became a solid enough player, in what, ten days, to hold his own against a Top Ten team.
