I guess this one is kind of tricky since we don't have an actual spot open just yet.
Read Richard's article on the matter. Shaq came away VERY impressed. Listed us basically as his top school currnetly. He has not done any other official visits.
During the visit he noted he felt welcomed and like a member of the team already. Dont have the link readily available however.

Yeh this situation was mentioned in another thread--not sure if there was an answer. I don't know if there is any type of protocol for verbal commits exceeding the confirmed open schollies for a particular recruiting year in MBB. @BKIn118 posted previously about keeping an eye on the LOI signing period, not sure if that was an insider "heads-up" or just an FYI....
I believe that a school can sign more than 13 as long as 13 are not on 'ships during any school semester. At one point, a 'ship is renewed on a yearly basis. I remembered Bannon didn't renew a player; he sued and lost.
In B1G, I believed a 'ship is good for 4 years. However, if a coach tells a player that he is going to be benched, I don't think that the player will stay around especially if he has already earned his degree. Medical 'ship may be given to a player who is done with the team due to injuries to finish up school.

I have practically no knowledge of how recruiting works. Don't we have plenty of open scholarship spots open? All the committed players aren't signed yet.
I am not in love with bringing in a 14th player, i'd prefer to not have to operate that way. However there are players that are Jordan players and 1 that as of last year was overweight. this would make me a little less upset.

I am sure the staff knows the situation a lot better than we do.
This happens all day long everywhere else....it's just new territory for RU....We would be saying the staff was doing a poor job if we had
A) A normal transfer out
B) Corey Sanders departed for the Pros (not necessarily drafted by an NBA team, he's already declared twice
C) Doorson doesn't bounce back from his foot injury to be a reliable 15-20 minute a game player this year or certainly next year, if it gets to that point....
In the scenario above, even with the commitments in place, we would be at TEN healthy ships for 2018-19....there is absolutely no way we can stop recruiting in a scenario like this, we have to treat Sanders as if he is a senior mentally and Doorson has not been 100% at any point in the last 2 years.
Carter would be an absolute huge pick up, he's mobile, physical, can run and jump/defend and is a perfect fit for the conference. I'm certain that with our big man coaching now vastly improved and our S&C program now showing immediate results, Carter can be an impact player.....actually all of our players at RU are now going to be significantly stronger/faster/conditioned vs where they stand today....
Carter and hopefully Warren Washington would be smart/wise and responsible program building.

link doesn't work for me..i don't have premium..can you give the summary :sunglasses
I promise not to tell :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eyeFreeman came from Hutch. Carter is from Eastern Florida. Not the same JC.
Its logical to assume scholarships will be available because Carter and Washington will have visited Rutgers within the next week. The time and effort by staff and willingness of recruits to visit is a sure sign that a few current roster players will be leaving.
Carters team indeed lost to Hutchnson as Knights1212 mentioned. It is hard to be positive about what you said.
They are being recruited because like Hawk mentioned, it happens all the time.
Resourceful roster management is the sign of a good coach and a program interested in competing and winning. We've had more than our share of talented players bolt for greener pastures. Maybe finally, we grow the greener pasture.
Better to be proactive than to be caught late in the recruiting cycle trying to bring in a body. Sanders likely has told the staff this is his last season. It was touch and go that he would return this year. The staff also knows the injury status of our current roster. They also know certain players will not see the floor this year and will look to leave. It happens with every team.
In a way, not such a bad thing. Now players can upgrade their situation like coaches and assistant coaches often do. Of course it would be sweet if players declared they wanted "out" and there was some kind of waiver wire. As things stand now, strong teams get stronger. Floundering teams are stuck ... their best players routinely move on.

Transfers would rise and coaches would have a hard time maintaining continuity as rosters would change even more than currently happens.
