They looked really good last night in upsetting South Carolina, who was playing without their leading scorer who was just suspended indefinitely. SHU is very balanced. They have great guards in Carrington and Powell and Delgado is a top-tier big man, except for his foul shooting. It will be very difficult to compete with them at the Rock.

I will have to say, this was one of the most exciting games I have seen this season. I caught the second half, and missed Rutgers/SBU Rutgers/CCSU.

They have a great offensive team, with some solid defense. They are not not great, but certainly better than good.

It can be done, but certain things RU must do to win.

1) Obvious-use their depth. Seton Hall has about 7 playable guys. Rutgers has about 8-10. Guys like Sa who can step in and not stand out as a liability.

2) Continually go at Delgado. He fouls. Johnson must go at him heavily, and make him sit 7 minutes in the first half. Towards the end,RU might have option to use their depth and foul Delgado, bringing people in and off the bench repeatedly. Foul if the situation presents itself.

3) Make sure RU defense is not just said to be better, but prove it. I have seen a huge improvement, but I am not convinced Sanders is playing 10/10 defense. I think it is more 7/10. He must push himself to the 8/10 mark.

The rest is pretty obvious.

Do they have a perimeter game? Looks like our biggest problem is stopping them.

Yes, Powell, Carrington and Desi can shoot 3s.
So can Singh when he gets minutes.

They also get a PG (Thomas) back for the RU/SHU game.
He's been suspended.

It will be a tough game for RU but I think they can keep it close and win if they are more focused than The Hall.

Hate to say it, but we are not going to beat Seton Hall this year. They are a hard nosed, tough team. The last two years they have abused us. That should end this year and we will at least be more competitive.

In order for RU to win this game, they have to be a beast in the perimeter defensively and contain Delgado from getting to the offensive glass. I would start William and Johnson. But I believe that coach has a plan

If SHU has a weakness, it's frontcourt depth.

Delgado is very good but Nzei, Anthony and Carter are all very limited on talent or inexperienced.

Nzei is good, the other two, yes, they struggle. Anthony can be a fouling machine. He is better if the opposition is taller and slower. Carter is more athletic. We also play Nzei and Sanogo together depending on the matchup. Delgado and Rodriguez are both excellent, all league level guys. We do have decent depth at guard this year as opposed to last when we only played three guys are guard. Carrington has really elevated his already solid play. And Powell is a terrific frosh. Curious to see Thomas. Supposed to be real good defensively and very fast, a drive and dish guy, not much of a scoring threat (similar to Jones) . Friday before Christmas in Newark, what could be finer!

I know Nzei is still young, but I just don't see much promise with him outside of hustle.

Hey you never know. And your coach has gotten his players to play hard. But all would have to align for you guys. Should be a much closer game than previous year. But here is a quote from Frank Martin...

"Hats off to Seton Hall. They’ve got some tough, tough dudes that don’t back down,” USC coach Frank Martin said. “They beat us to loose balls. They beat us on the glass. They beat us off the dribble. They beat us on every competitive play that you can imagine.”

So three guard? You do not want their three guards versus our three guards.

For sure. Nothing is guaranteed. Not all would have to align, as no sport is ever perfect.Your team will not play perfectly either.

I watched the game, too. Frank Martin was being nice. I saw Seton Hall turn the ball over a lot, and get beat to loose balls.

Seton Hall has the upper hand, but who knows. You have a fun season of entertainment ahead of you, as your team is fun to watch.

Can Corey "handle" Carrington?

Depends who Sanders is on the night of the 23rd. Is he a great defender, or is he just an average one to below average?I have seen some great defense from him, but it has not been consistent.

I love how the Hall is all from the area, with the exception of few. It is hard to root against them.

Right now, there is potentially three NBA players on your team. Carrington has potential to be better than Whitehead. There, I said it. Overall game is more balanced.

You have a fun season ahead of you. Enjoy!

Singh is a nonfactor. We have more serviceable depth than Seton Hall I believe.

Agree that Delgado and Rodriguez are excellent. I saw the SHU play a very good Cal team and Delgado may have been the best player on the court. Really tough match up since he's big, physical and athletic. I don't see Gettys having a good game against him. Doorson may be a bit better with his strength and physical body.

Well I would think much has to align. The turnovers were mostly in the first half. We're hardly perfect

I actually don't dislike Seton Hall as much as I used to. Probably because Herb Pope is not on the team anymore. I don't root for them, but man they play tough. The Big East final last year was one of the more enjoyable games last year. This is a tough assignment for us. We need to somehow slow them down.

Big east is a fantastic conference. They are always fun to watch. I do not mind watching them, either. It's not an RU sin. Some people just like basketball.

True regarding fees, but for those that work Downtown Newark, walk over to the Pru Center box office and avoid all Ticketmaster fees.

We have a thread about NIT and whether we make the tournament next year. We all agree the team is much better, but with 1 game against a real opponent it is difficult to gauge where we really are.

When looking at this game the answer NOW is that we can win the game. I believe we still have a long way to go, but if we play our A game and they don't knock down shots we will win. I think we have closed the gap where the variable of reasonable shooting off the basketball on both ends is around the margin of the game. If SHU goes 15-28 from FT line and we go 16-22 PLUS they go 5-20 from 3 and we go 6-15 from 3 I think we win. we needed more than that in years past.

Obviously there is much more than shooting. However it is the biggest variable. I am going to make the assumption both teams bring effort and loose balls are 50/50. I will also assume rebounding is pretty tight.

Yes, if you make your shots and we dont make ours you should win.

From what I've seen of SHU this year I expect the game to be similar to our Miami game. We will have some runs but overall it will be an uphill climb. Gameplan and gameday coaching will have to put us in a position to win if the players execute and make a decent percentage of shots.
