the zebras handed them the game by calling a foul on SJU in the scrum on the rebound. Didn't look like a foul at all and then didn't bother to review that potential elbow by Carrington on that play. Just hideous to decide a game like that with multiple players fighting for a rebound

Pirates should thank god because they would have gone from in to out with that loss

SHU really lucked out. The last foul was a joke against the Johnnies. Whitehead got an extra point on a lane violation on the Johnnies with a few minutes left. Whitehead only 1-12 from the floor and St. John's I think was like 8-19 on foul shots.

big east refs have always been good at helping out their higher ranked teams with post season bids

Gee the Johnnies got screwed on a last call. Still remember refs were heading to happy Hour when they screwed us.

Whitehead had clear possession of the ball when a SJU player subsequently grabbed him across his body. Why isn't that a foul?

With that said, SHU was very lucky to escape with a win as SJU made several terrible plays in the final minute. For example, they shouldn't have even fought for the loose ball on the Whitehead play. SHU would have had the ball down by one near the St. John's basket with only 5 seconds left and no timeouts.

I still can not believe how bad that SJU BE game was at the end -- but I do remember that there was more than just Coburn, Mitchell and Biruta being denied trips to the line as time wound down as well as the premature ending. The announcers (I think it was Mahoney) were disparaging the refs for their treatment of Rutgers well before that last cluster of four mistakes. I wish there had been more consequences for them than simply being suspended. We got to see a reenactment in the last few seconds of this year's RU/SHU game, and again we forgot about how pathetic the refs were even before the farcical ending.

Carter was fouled in that game on a shot with 12 seconds left and Mitchell was fouled on a rebound over the back by SJU. ..Both bad calls that Doris Burke and Fran Fraschila confirmed as bad calls

Biruta got mugged with about 20 seconds left with no call. That game seemed like it was rigged for the Johnnies.
