Heiman is more D1 ready than I thought he would be. Long way to go, but that's always how it will be with NU's big men. Turnkey 7-footers go to blue blood programs.
For me the loss of Tschminga is more theoretical than actual. If he had really progressed while at NU, this team's ceiling would be extremely high. But in reality, they're probably just as good or better without him.
Heiman was better than expected. Before watching last night's game, I thought the loss of Jordy was going to be more of a concern. But, Heiman filled in well. Not a wide-body to take up space, but had a couple of nice blocks so the instincts are good and compensates a little. Rebounded decently, so good instincts there, too. And has some good moves around the basket. Again, good instincts. With Heiman and Borchardt, they can be serviceable, which is all that is needed this year.
The other guys on the 2nd unit looked good in spurts. Made some good plays, but also some not so good plays (thusly, 2nd unit guys). We won't go undefeated this year, but if we get that level of play from the 2nd unit, we will win enough to be in the upper part of the conference and make the NCAAs.
