Seth Davis axed by SI

For all the complaining about how ESPN has "politicized" sports.....it can't really hold a candle to SI. My impression - consistent with reports - is that there are conservatives at ESPN, they just stay kind of quiet (or hide under the desk, depending on whom you listen to, heh). My guess is there are no conservatives at SI. Peter King, Seth Davis, Frank DeFord, Jeff Pearlman, Richard Deitsch, Tim Layden, Grant Wahl, Steve Rushin....on and on, all avowed liberals with no hesitation about infusing their stories, columns, and articles with their own politics. I guess the difference is ESPN is on television and therefore more visceral and in your face than a magazine, which can be more easily missed or dismissed.

BTW, the view that Adolph Rupp was a virulent racist - which is now not just an opinion but accepted and crystalized fact among all journalists - emanates best as I can tell from an early 1990s piece by Curry Kirkpatrick, borrowing from James Michener's Sports in America. The piece was nothing more than social consciousness that incidentally involved sports. Before that, no one really thought of UK/Texas Western as a watershed moment in sports history, no one really thought of Rupp as a racist. For a generation of writers weaned and raised on SI, whatever was in those pages was gospel. And so it is.......

Never cared for him particularly, but certainly hate to see anyone lose their job, unless they are doing something illegal or causing some sort of problem.

I learned to tune him out and not pay any attention to him, just like anyone else I don't care about. I certainly don't celebrate his losing his job, though.

I don't like Trump, but I can't even listen to any news anymore because it's just constant Trump bashing. He could cure cancer and they would say what has he done about heart disease.
I agree. He does bring some it on himself but the press has gone waaaay overboard. What those morons don't realize is, they are guaranteeing his reelection if he runs. Everyone is sick of the constant bashing whether they like him or not except for left wing nuts.

To be fair, everyday he does something worth getting bashed for. I agree it can be a little much but he isn't helping himself at all
I agree with both of these posts, actually.

Don't care about his politics, glad his basketball takes are going away in some form.

You could count on Seth suggesting a Duke should have a higher seed than teams that perform in similar fashion. It's part of who he is.
It would be nice to see a few new faces come in and discuss basketball in a more objective manner if that is possible in today's reporting.

Yeah like helping with trade agreements and such. How dare he.
Yeah and led us in the worse economic growth on over 5 years, while only being in office a little over 100 days. He's pushing through the worse healthcare bill, just to say he got rid of Obamacare. He just fired the FBI director who is investigating his Russia ties. He lied and said he was advised by the doj and then went on t.v. to say it was bc of Russia. It's like some ppl just want Santa to be real. They bring him up everyday because everyday he does something horrible. Some people don't stop and say what if this Russia thing is real? What happens once we find out our president is a tool for another country.
