First part of the game, I was thinking he was not up to the task of playing against elite teams. Looked a step slow and in over his head.

I'm very impressed that he let the game slow down and come to him. As much as I am with the contributions he made.

He's going to make countless great plays this year and it will be fun to watch. So glad to have him. I think he has more of an effect than we can even see.

Exactly right OP. Fought through it and was making big winning plays down the stretch. I had said I was hoping we would use him as a trailer 3 shooter in our secondary break and took flak. Well he drilled that late game big 3 doing it so suck it critics!

He will be our most consistent player for things that don't show up on the box score. He creates a lot of opportunities for our guards and can definitely stretch a defense with his ability to shoot the 3.

This is blasphemy, but he reminds me of one of the multitude of solid big white guys Bob Knight used to have at Indiana. Smart AND physical.

Will probably end up averaging like 6 and 6, but makes two or three critical plays each game that help seal the W.

Kids in the future will look up his stats and wonder why people their parents age rave about him.

I thought he was poised throughout the game. It would have been easy to let such a huge experience get you hyped to the point of rushing and making bad decisions. He let the whole game come to him. Seemed during some breaks, Cal was talking just to him, not in negative way, but like he was making sure the coach on the floor knew the plan. But for a silly foul in the backcourt, I thought he was impressive and solid. You can see he understands where he needs to be and he trust his teammates to score. Some dudes would come to UK from Bucknell and try to match their numbers to prove a point. Nate seems to understand the talent around him. I think we are seeing why his team values him so much as a great teammate.

Early on there were times he looked a step slow. Possibly just that he was thinking instead of reacting, because he adjusted and began playing some outstanding defense and getting a lot of rebounds.

The fact that he did this against 1 ranked Michigan State is impressive. The competition for him will take a step down in most of the games we play this year, which will allow him to help this team even more.

Lol I don't see his game as much like Harrellson's at all. Josh was a true low post player who occasionally hit a jump shot. Josh had an inch and 30 pounds on Nate. Nate is a better shooter and much quicker than Josh, but not as strong and won't be an immovable object defending in the post. All they really have in common are being big, white, and transfers in.

He's not a carbon copy of Harrellson by any means, but I definitely see some similarities in how they play. Josh was bigger/more effective in the paint, Nate is a better shooter and quicker. Nate is also capable of switching some on the perimeter, unlike Josh. But in terms of how they both approach the game with patience, smarts, hustle, and grit are quite similar.

Once the offense gets fully installed with this group, I can see Nate's role increasing even further. I predicted him to be a 12 and 6 guy when he signed with us, and I can still see that. His value extends well beyond the box score though at the end of the day.

He blocked what would have been the dunk of the year in the Michigan State game. The sequence happened very quickly and don’t get much attention from the announcers but was a huge play at a critical time. Real happy with the fact he’s got some hops.

It was a great game for who he is. Sparty wanted to be physical and control the tempo. They aren't particularly quick or bouncy, and you saw that we overwhelmed them with what our guys can do physically.

There may be games this year where he struggles, but the rest of the team is well-suited to pick up the slack in those situations. Where we really need him is to be an adult on the floor, block out, make the right decision, stay between his man and the basket, rotate well, and make open shots.

In short, we're going to ask him to do exactly what he's good at. That's usually the story for success, and man that guy is hungry for it. Grad transfers usually are. Maturity breeds patience and urgency at the same time.

All of our white players get compared to each other lol. And Klay Thompson... and Booker (they’re lighter skinned)

Agree....his game grew on me the more I watched him. Very patient player....unlike some of our younger guys. Strong inside, excellent stroke. He'll play 25 min/game for us.
