I see pitbull mentality on defense that Huggins likes. Getting lot of forced turnovers on opponent after opponent. I like what I see. I see things I don't like but 7 strangers need time to figure out each other.

Only problem is WVU is sometimes matching those turnovers with their own and they are unforced turnovers. People worry about getting scorers in the portal but they should have gotten a guard that can pass as well.

OK, only 9 Navy turnovers, 2 blocked shots, 5 steals. Horrible?

4 2nd chance points by Navy. Horrible defense?

WVU led all the way after 2 ½ minutes of the game. Horrible?

By the way I was the sports editor on the Tug River while Jim Van Zant was in the military and away from the Williamson Daily News in the 1950s.

You should look up how many wide, WIDE open shots Navy had. Or how a 5’6” guard drove the lane on us. Or how Jimmy Bell was 5ft beyond the 3pt line trying to guard. Or how many line drives we have up. Statistics aren’t always the answer. If our defense performs like that against most Big 12 teams, especially on the road, we will be lucky to go 8-10 in Big 12 play. I love Huggs, love the man, but our defense needs to get better or we will get exposed in a couple weeks. All I’m saying..

YOU MAKE GOOD POINTS AND I SHARE SOME OF YOUR TREPIDATION. BUT I ALWAYS LOOK FOR SILVER LININGS AND I STILL TRUST HUGGINS. THE TALENT IS THERE BUT IT WILL TAKE TIME FOR THE 7 STRANGERS TO LEARN EACH OTHER'S WAYS. UAB WILL BE A RUGGED TEST, NO DOUBT!
