Do you think Cal gets too conservative too quickly in most games ? Whether you want to call it milking it , or running clock , whatever , do you think he tightens up the last minutes of games ?

I don’t think there’s any doubt he has shown a tendency to do so at times.

He is not a bad coach but he is very stubborn and set in his ways. And he has a couple of glaring flaws that are obvious and that’s easy to exploit by better coaches.

I'm doing good now. I was in the hospital in
September for covid. Had pneumonia and came home using oxygen.
I'm pretty much back to normal.
I thank God for sparing my life.

Whoa.... Bless you Brother. My youngest is a covid nurse and my other two children are all in healthcare. My wife and I have had it too. We got the shots but I am not so sure I will get the booster. It's been a rough couple years but if nothing good ever happens to me again, God has blessed me so much I can never complain. Just too many blessings in my life so far.

I have aches and pains but nothing I complain about. Mostly people around me listening to me grunt and groan but it may be mostly habit. Take care, I look forward to bugging you.

You care to answer the question regarding what Allen might do if given Grady’s minutes with the first team?

It’s clear as day to me that these dudes are the same player. Stand around a lot on offense. Primarily spot up three point shooters. And play terrible defense. Grady was one of the worst defensively tonight.

I’m not advocating that one play over the other. But I am wondering why you bring a guy in who you already have. And why, if you are Allen, you continue to stick around when it’s clear that you will not be given opportunities for the duration of your career here.

Just seems like a very strange situation all around.

People have to understand something here. It's not a UK thing. It's a natural human tendency to let up when up by a large margin.

There's a bit of a let off and that combined with the other team still giving 100% (cause lets be honest no one wants to get embarrassed) makes the final score a little bit closer.

This happens to ALL TEAMS tho.

Cal was messing around also. He subbed out 5 players and put 5 new ones in and we weren't the same after that. He was just experiment and it messed with our rhythm

I think cal is prioritizing the opportunity to learn about combinations and giving people experience over margin of victory. Had he been coaching for that we would have won by a lot more.

as for 2015 I think he was just stubborn. He does not like to improv.

I believe the "Cal slows it down" is way overblown.

I would love to see the figures on average time of possession on offense overall compared to say late in the game when we are up by double digits. While I'm sure there's a difference (it does make sense to run clock at some point) I don't think the difference is as great as some are making it out to be.

In fact outside of 2010 when our avg poss length was 16.1 seconds (51st) and 2017 when it was 15.3 (17th), Cals teams overall don't go fast on offense. We typically rank in the middle of D1 in avg poss length on offense most years. So IMO it's not really Cal slowing it down...........we always play rather slow under Cal to begin with. It's just a continuation of his normal offense.

While people hate that strategy, it's usually the correct one to play. At some point you are up by so much and the only thing that could really get a team back into the game is if they force a ton of turnovers or end possessions quickly when they are on defense.

I don't think we've blown many double digit leads under Cal. Or put it another way I don't think we've blown more double digit leads than you'd expect to have blown. I believe we typically get the strategy correct.

Last night we weren't ineffective because we slowed it down. We just hit a slump on offense in large part due to the massive substitution IMO.

In my opinion it is just because he is a defensive minded coach. Stoops is the same exact way. Get a comfortable lead and sit on it. Take the foot off the gas and just milk the clock and hope the defense doesn't fold.

It seems to just throw both offenses out of whack. Cal nearly blew the title game letting Kansas get back into it when we were on the verge of blowing them out (which led to the Bill Self running out of time comment).

That is my biggest criticism of both of their coaching methods. I'd rather they go for the jugular and put teams away with no chance to comeback. Especially when the offense is clicking. One of the best things about Pitino when he coached here. He would throttle opponents. Have to wash my mouth out with soap now for giving him a compliment.
