Antonio Reed starting safety. He has as much talent as any safety on the team. Listed as a starter as a senior. Good job! Plenty of competition. D. Williams may be the only other safety who can match his athleticism, and he's #2 with the "OR".

Young, Freedom, and Conrad. Plenty of criticism for these 3 over the years. Would love to see them have outstanding senior years to cap off their Husker careers.

Freedom is finally playing where he needs to be playing. He was never a fit at OLB or even a 4-3 DE. He's just not quick enough. Our DEs are going to be a key on how we do defensively IMO.

I'm not surprised Reed is starting because he's always had the talent. I was surprised by the reports in fall camp that he was 3rd string for a time.

Hope you are right about the position being the problem. I don't have any confidence in Freedom at this point, but since these coaches do, hope to be pleasantly surprised.

Since the goal was to give everyone fairly even snaps and there were no teams assigned I am not sure where he was listed as "3rd string" by the coaches unless it was due to injury. Obviously he won the position but I don't think he made up that much ground. When was anyone listed on 1st, 2nd or 3rd team this fall before now?

I think he has the talent to play the 3-4 DE. He hasn't shown me the explosiveness I think we want there, BUT if the S&C has helped him and he's rotating in and out we may see that this year. Personally, I'm a little surprised he's still 1st team but that may be a nod to a senior who probably won't play any more than the younger guys. The cream will rise to the top during the season. I like the fact that he was athletic enough coming out of high school to at least be considered to play TE or OLB.
