Some highlights on the struggles of our offense and improving but still not good enough defense. I tried to find some of the stats that I feel are the most important to get flipped. The best indicator of that is the Points per Game and Points per Play stats. They point to the efficiency of our offense and defense. As you can see, we have gotten continually (year over year) better on D and continually worse on O. This is why I think you see so many close games both lost and won.

Mainly I think this is due to a totally new offense and mindset including a huge switch from pass to run (0.80 runs to passes to 1.15 last year and 1.68 this year). Defense has had more experience on their side of the ball. Losing our proven weapons on offense has really hurt (Mo, WR hurt, AM hurt and regression, Devine, Stanley). Our sacks and TFL are drastically worse on offense basically going from 5% to almost 9% this year for sacks. TFL follows a similar trend.

For defense, the inability to get off the field on 3rd down and inability to improve Red Zone D is the major cause since things like sacks and TFL have improved.

Am I missing something. Are you comparing this year to last year or frost to Reilly. This is 17 and 18. Not 18 and 19.

As much as we've all lambasted Chins defense, at least we can see there has been objective improvement when looking at stats. Throughout this season, there were at least moments (and even whole quarters at times) that made me actually stop and say wow, nice. Of course theres much to improve upon, but its nice to see some truth to improvement. Now if the offense can just get in order and be the top 20 unit that its supposed to be, we might actually be in business...

Last year I said if we could get a top 50 defense combined with our offense we should win 8-9 games. Defense was 66th and offense dropped from 25th to 58th. I maintain if we had put a top 25 offense o. The field this season we would have won at least two mor if not three more games this past season. OL play, QB play and lack of a deep threat to stretch the field really hurt us on offense.

There are 3 years so you have Riley's last year as comparison.

Yes sir! Especially if our OLine comes out somewhat strong.....it could happen!
