Were you in a coma during Ray? Stare into the sun for too long a few years ago? We lost a game on the road to a mediocre team. It has happened every year I've watched us on the hardcourt. We can and I think will still make the dance

Not trying to be an *******, but does the success of the women’s team really make up for the frustration of the ineptitude of our men for most of you? I’m glad our women are awesome, and proud of what Vic has done, but for me it doesn’t make up for the men’s **** show.

I remember when men’s BB was what gave MSU respect when our football team was shite. Foolishly thought that might be a major sport that we could remain respectable in for years to come. I went to practices at the Hump in 1986, to watch Lockhart, Woodard, Hubert Henderson, and Richard Williams raging rants. ...went to games mainly to get 2 for 1 Bryan hotdogs, and we only won 7 games. 4 years later we won 20. And so on...
Dear God...how old is Tricky Dick now? Put him on the bench.

Howland still coaching like its 2008. Coach, you should have signed some guards that can shoot. And for the love of everything, pls teach these guys how to defend the perimeter.

I was never in favor of firing or moving on from Stanbury. He should have been given time to right the ship and post Sidney. Anyway, Stansbury teams overall were tough. It’s the same situation in football. We are a lower tier school in the SEC, so we have to have coaches and players that have have that edge and are if nothing else are going to be tougher than whoever we’re playing. Toughness doesn’t care who the opponents are.

One doesnt have to make up for the other, at least for me. You and I appear to be in the same box wrt time with the mens team. I went to both teams then too. It's a different game and different teams. However ****** we are, it's like cussing the rain. I dont control it, yeah I can vent, but that's the limit.

Oh..and yes, I do have some tiny amount of hope this team digs their *** out of the hole.

Richard was on SportsTalk the other day with Richard Cross and he was asked about our transition offense and Tricky Dick literally said we run the floor, but he wasn't sure if we had any method to it. Guards don't run to the same spot, if a post rebounds they bring it up instead of finding a guard, etc. He said without really saying it, that he doesn't think they are coached very well. And he's right.

If the kids bought in Richard could take this much talent back to the big dance easily.

I agree with Richards assessment!
And with the statement that he could have this team in the Dance.
Would definitely be better coached and tougher defensively

Nah. Defense is an attitude and only a couple have that. It's why we end up chasing, over compensating for a failed assignment. Perry is not much of an inside presence. He doesnt play angry (lack of slams, lack of rim defense)

I’m so frustrated. I really thought this team was better then last year. They had a stretch were playing excellent basketball in that Tournament. Almost every game since has been a struggle. Idk what happened?

Parting ways with Stans wasn’t a terrible decision imo. I think it was time to move on at that point. The Rick Ray hire was ridiculous tho. Nobody even knew who the guy was. At that time the program was decent and we could have gotten a pretty good coach. Instead we hired the basketball version of Croom and the program still hasn’t really recovered 8 years later.

I’m usually pretty level headed about MSU athletics, but the basketball team sucking really disappoints me. I think thats because I grew up on really good MSU basketball when Stans was the coach. Really miss watching guys like Lawrence Roberts, Charles Rhodes, Jamont Gordon, Berry Stewart, Jarvis Vernardo, Dee Bost, and Ravern Johnson. Most of that time the Football team sucked and baseball wasn’t as great as it is now. At least you could always usually count on MSU basketball being exciting. The Hump was rocking and it was a fun! Now the whole state of the program is almost depressing at times.

Howlands teams give you a little taste of what those old teams were like. Then just when you start to buy in, they start to suck again. Man I hope I’m dead wrong, and this team gets out of this funk and turn things around. They still have some time, but not much.

I am amazed by some people's blind optimism in the basketball team. We literally have about a 2 percent chance of making the tournament. And that's only because of just having a team with a roster.

I made a prediction after NMSU game that we'd be 3-6 or maybe 2-7 after the first 9 conf games. And even that looks like it'll be tough. We don't have the guards or the shooters to overcome the lack of coaching on this team. Really miss Q and unfortunately we miss Lamar's ability to create. It would've been interesting to watch him in a system designed to get people open looks. He's tearing it up in the D league right now.

But oh well, since so many people don't really pay attention to basketball or watch other teams, the real problem goes unnoticed. The only fear with getting a new coach, which needs to happen, is with the guy who will be hiring him. We're literally stuck in an apathetic purgatory that'll keep destroying fan interest in the program.

Sad, they are successful when they play as a team. Unfortunately, that is only 10 minutes of a 40 minute game. Too much me in our program.

I'm amazed that people respond to threads about a sport or team that they clearly hate and have no interest in.

Been watching MSU hoops since the 70s, and the hallmark of MSU MBB has been grit and fight, even in the leanest of years.

Perhaps one of the many MSU hoops signature moments I remember most is knocking off #1 Arkansas (Nolan's "40 minutes of hell") in the Hump in '94. David Domingue leveled an Arkansas player on a screen at mid-court and set the crowd en fuego.

If I didn't have any interest in it I wouldn't post about. The opposite of love isn't hate, it's indifference.

One of my favorite MSU games in any sport was the home game against Florida in 94-95. Florida came in ranked in the top 25 and blew us off the court early. They were up by 20 or more in the first half. Then Super D hit his first 3 of the night early in the second half. The entire team immediately calmed down and started clicking on all cylinders. We outscored them by 40+ in the second half and won the game by 23.

Pity me, I actually used to think Carter could actually shoot. Apparently some alien with no shooting skills has taken over his body.

I did a post about that game many years ago. Amazing.
