The Georgia coach suggested that if an agreement can't be reached on expansion, spending in the NIL era and beyond, perhaps the SEC should try to go it alone.

A massive self inflicted wound if anyone actually gave it more than the smallest of interest.
Kirby should stick to coaching and now that the rules have changed, try to win at least one CFP game.

Actually I think the South Carolina Mens athletic program would be better served to Join the Big South... So SEC can do wghat they wish, we are Big South Bound!!!

If the SEC were to go out on their own, I would think the CFP would still let them participate in the playoff. The NCAA does not control anything about the CFP, it is owned by the 10 FBS conferences and Notre Dame. ESPN owns the worldwide broadcast rights. I have a hard time imagining the CFP turning their backs on a conference with multiple playoff entrants each year.

Other than the playoff, the bowls would be the only other thing at risk. I can't see any bowl not allowing an SEC team to play simply because they weren't part of the NCAA.

See, I had the crazy notion of the B10, SEC (plus a few) playoffs. And then a "second division" playoffs. The greed of multiple playoffs may attract some.

But I admit its out there as far as ideas.

Here is where the self inflicted wound part comes into play

Georgia President Jere Morehead got this kicked off in a booming way by telling Emerson of the idea of the SEC breaking away and running its own Playoff:

My question is how can the SEC with a straight face announce a NC when they would refuse to participate in the playoffs.
There is no way to spin this idea as a positive long term solution

Maybe he was looking to the UCF model from 2017.
