SEC schedule really hurt us this year

The SEC is down this year and we played the top 4 teams only once and went 1-3 in those games. Those are the only teams going to the tourney. Three out of the four were on the road. If we had an opportunity to beat LSU, Florida, or Kentucky at home that would've helped. Of course, we should've handled our business with the schedule we had but the schedule was not good for us strength of schedule-wise.

I hate that we played Auburn and LSU so early in the SEC schedule when we were still figuring things out after Nick’s return. There are so many games that we could have/should have won. Some of these we **** the bed and some we caught tough breaks.

La Tech
New Mexico State
Auburn
@LSU
@Oklahoma
@Ole Miss
@A&M
@South Carolina

Pick up any two of those eight and we are in no sweat. The margin is razor thin.

You can add the Alabama game in Tuscaloosa to this list. We should not have let them whip our *** the way they did.

USC and Auburn weren’t really “should-win” games. But the other 6 were all possible.

Just looking at those other 6, you can look at nothing more than where we finished vs. all those teams and conclude there is no reason we shouldn’t have won at least 4 of 6. Then when you take into account that we had a lead in the final minute against the two best teams on the list (LSU, OU), you could certainly make an argument we could have / should have won all 6. If you just take MSU out of it entirely, you can conclude that any bona fide NCAA tourney team would win at least 2 of those 6. We won zero.

Saying there was no margin of error due to schedule is false. There was plenty of margin for error. We just used all of it up.

Losing by 25 to Ole Miss in Oxford was a wet blanket on the resume also. It definitely mattered. When you don’t have a great win that looks like **** on a resume.

A conference loss on the road, no matter by what amount, is still much more forgivable in my book than a home loss to LA Tech and a neutral site loss to NMSU (that was really much more a home game for us than a neutral site game). So our season was basically sunk in December without a tremendous SEC record given we didn't play any of the top SEC teams more than once.

This is a great example of an MSU thread... Talking more about our losses than our wins.

It may not have matched our expectations but we are in the NCAA Tourney discussion after several years of living in the wasteland.

We have 20 wins again. I remember our favorite Coach saying that wasn't that important or good.

Have a few years without winning seasons and see how important it is to a program.

We just got back into being revelant again folks and it may take some more time to make the Dance year, much less the second round of the Dance, especially with the college basketball world being more corrupt and crazy than any time in history.

This is a great example of an any team that's just outside the projected NCAA field thread. Of course people are talking about the couple of games that would have made the difference.

I don't know what coach you're referring to, but 20 wins is absolutely not important.

I would love to see you explain this to our players, coaches, and AD.

Well, the season goal, outside of trying to win a conference title, is to make the NCAA tournament. If you get in with 17 wins that is a much better year than if you get left out with 23 wins.
