The officiating seems to get worse every season. It’s one of the reasons for the steep decline in the interest in college basketball. It’s getting to be unwatchable.

How exactly do these crews get assigned to these games? I see lots of fans talking about SEC refs, but I see a lot of the refs who are reffing SEC games also reffing games from other conferences.

No one wants to watch tat crap. FIFTY THREE FTs in a game is unwatchable.

SEC refs are consistently bad. Take over games but will let teams like South Carolina manhandle the opponent at their place

I agree. Watching a FT shooting contest in not the reason fans turn on a game.

I would like to see a rule change - - I think it was Al McGuire that proposed it several years ago. The rule would be that the fouled team has the the option on any foul (except an "and 1" or a technical foul) to forego the foul shots and take the ball out of bounds instead. So, once a team reached the bonus or double bonus, the team could elect to inbound the ball instead of shooting FTs each time a foul is called.

That means, for example, if one of your poorer FT shooters gets fouled, you may opt to take the ball out of bounds rather than have that player shoot a 1+1 or a 2 shot foul. Conversely, if one of your better FT shooters gets fouled, you may want to elect to shoot.

One negative of the rule is that if a team is down by 3 points late, the other team can't keep them from shooting a 3 by fouling and putting the team on the line. The team fouled could simply elect to take the ball out of bounds and try to get a 3.

This rule may cut down a bunch of FTs and keep the flow of the game going.

I don’t like teams being able to foul in that situation to begin with (in order to keep the opposing team from shooting a three). Nor do I like being able to repeatedly foul near the end of a game when you’re down. Why? Because those types of fouls are clearly intentional and should be treated as such. But they never have been treated as such.
