Hitting .282 which is good enough for 10th place in the SEC. Not terrible considering some good competition we've played but it's not setting the world on fire.

Team ERA is 3.09.. places us 9th in the SEC. SEE: Hitting

Slugging... .424.. 11th place

HR's.. 13th place with 10.. though some other teams have a game or two more on us. Still...

OBP.. .391.. 8th place

Strikeouts... 13th with 71.. which surprises me. TN is #1 with 121.... woof.

Stolen Bases.. we're 1st with 17.. wonder if we've ever led the league at any point in the season in this category.

Grounded into DP.. first with 10. Yep.. feels about right.

Fielding %.... .957 which puts us DFL in the SEC. That's shockingly bad.

We also have the 2nd strongest SoS in the conference behind Arkansas.

Here's a few stats where we excel:

Strikeouts: 150 (3rd in SEC, 3rd in country)
Hits allowed per 9 innings: 6.45 (5th in SEC, 23rd in country)

Also, our fielding percentage is not just last in the conference, we're #206 out of 261 in the country. Yeesh.

Well ****... obviously our schedule is factor. But, I do agree with Charlie (Sunday Morning Coffee), it gives you a little pause that the best pitcher on Tulane and Kent State locked us up. We will see better pitching than those guys in the weeks to come.

We don’t have to be the best hitting and pitching team through three weeks. We just have to hit better than what our pitching staff gives up and pitch better than what our opponent gives up. We know we have a deep pitching staff. Starting pitching has been unreliable, but I believe it will be figured out. Bednar pitching a perfect inning this weekend makes me feel better. I also think we have capable hitting. We just need to continue to improve and get hot at the right times. My biggest concern at this point is defense. But as we saw yesterday, the coaches are still moving guys around to figure that out as well. I’ll wait until we lose a series before I start to worry.

ETA: I also notice that Auburn is #1 in batting average and #4 in fielding %. Kentucky is #2 in ERA and #2 in fielding %. Maybe they end up being the 1- and 2- seeds in Hoover, but at this point I don't think anyone thinks they are elite SEC teams. So I'm not sure how much three weeks of non-conference tells us.

On the flip side, we did hit Ty Madden well and he has been absolutely dominant for Texas since they played us. But I guess by the same token TCU's ace dominated us that weekend.

Our biggest problem offensively is that we've lost some MAJOR bats the last couple of years (namely Mangum and Foscue) and the newcomers who have replaced them aren't on that level yet (if they ever will be). At the same time, our returning guys are largely the same as what they've been their whole careers. You haven't seen anybody take a noticeable step forward like we've had so many guys do in the last few years. It may still come, just hasn't happened yet.

At the end of the day I think this is just going to be a team that is more pitching oriented than an offensive juggernaut. Our best recipe for success is gong to be to get early leads and then lean heavily on our bullpen to seal the deal. I don't know that this come from behind thing we've been doing is sustainable in SEC play. That said, if we get our starting pitching figured out then we aren't going to need much at all from our offense.

Only Arkansas, has had a tougher schedule so far. Everyone else in the division is 100+ teams behind us. Let's get into conference play before we start comparing apples to Bitcoin.

We win 2 of 3 every weekend and they send us home with nice carved piece of wood June 30th.

And we may only be lower than Arkansas because of the Jackson State game. I'd put Kent State and Tulane over SE Missouri and Murray State. We have common opponents otherwise from the tournament in Arlington
