I can't open it (Premium content) but CJF said something about not being able to fly into Auburn and that the hotel is an hour away.

I asssume this link had something similar to report?

I'm not a member of the Athletic but this link somehow works for me.

I can't imagine it'll matter since they'd likely be flying into Columbus, GA, anyway. It's closer to Auburn than Montgomery and the main runway is the same length as SCE. Drive time is less than an hour.

Or maybe there are local regulations limiting plane sizes there.

Arkansas trotted out that fat bastard last year for our bowl game. Now Auburn is claiming him as well?

To be fair, it isn’t like State College is a breeze to get to either. It’s gotten better but when PSU joined the B1G it was a hassle for other teams, not that there’s anything wrong with that. I think it was Bobby Knight that described a road trip to Penn State as “going on a camping trip.”

Agree. That’s why I said it has gotten better. When they joined the B1G, most teams flew into Harrisburg and took buses to State College. If I’m not mistaken, Ohio State one year actually landed at Martinsburg, which is in no way set up for large aircraft.

Ask Tom Osbourne! When Nebraska came in 1982 they said he was livid when he found out he had to bus 2-3 hours from HIA.

Nothing about the special Auburn helmets for the game?

This is what we're up against!

Why would he be so upset in 1982 when he had to make the same trip to State College in 1980? Perhaps phony Tom was upset that Penn State was so much better in 1982.

Well in the interests of full disclosure -PSU flew out of Harrisburg also. Three busses, two state troopers vehicles and a state trooper helo overhead to Watch for traffic

Forced busing African Americans in Montgomery, Alabama.

Nothing has really changed in the South, has it? ;)
I was there in the early 70's...it was pretty backwoods then...
maybe someday I'll post the accounts of working Mississippi.
