I know, I know... although I will clarify that my comments honestly weren’t as much about perks as they were about the overall college experience. From the recruiting process to class/Tudor management to facility access or even the rule that you’re not allowed to accept a job, it’s just very different.

It has never been a question of if people live or die. It's been a question of who lives or dies. For every 1% unemployment goes up 40,000 people die. So as of right now the virus has killed 160k, and the shutdown has killed 280,000 people. The longer we keep this up, the bigger that number is going to get.

When you factor in the fact that the many of not most of those killed by the virus are in such bad shape they would not have seen the end of the year anyway, it's definately time to open back up and rebuild our lives.

I'm extremely skeptical of those stats regarding how many people die from unemployment, but definitely agree with the premise.

People are willing to inflict a lot of human suffering and deaths if that allows them to avoid acknowledging the scary truth that sometimes bad things are going to happen that we can't stop. It feels like we have to "do something", and the lockdowns and panics are "something", so they feel like they have to be done, regardless of how much human misery and suffering results and regardless of how much worse that harm is than the harm from the virus itself.

We are all just monkeys listening to the lizard part of our brains.
