after the transfers, mag out for a while, and only recent return of jermiah Williams, NIT is very attainable even if we finish only a couple of games over .500.

Unless we win at Purdue, safe to put the tourney talk to bed. But agree, would offer decent momentum going into next year if we managed to turn a 2-7 Big Ten start into an NIT bid

We don't have the shot makers to beat good teams on the road. This is not a strong roster. Give me 17 wins and I'll take it

I disagree with OP..why would the season be over. This RU team will bounce back and win again and there are alot of opportunities ahead. Its deflating we lost because the ncaa may not be happening but that does not mean there are not other things to play for and the big 10 tourney will be a wide open affair.

There are opportunities. But like you posted , 2 more losses puts us out of the tournament.
Perhaps we can make a conference tournament run if we can stay away from Purdue and Illinois until the semis

JW changed the makeup. With him you got a punchers chance but you almost need perfection. Too bad it took so long for him to get cleared.

This game was a missed opportunity with a very good first half against a opponent with multiple scoring threats. The start of the second half saw Rutgers shooting bricks that allowed Minnesota to dominate the second half.Rutgers missed too many layups while Minnesota made too many 3 pointers.I don't understand why Rutgers waited to the last minutes of the game to full court press which caused turnovers and baskets to reduce the margin of defeat.

When Jeremiah was ruled eligible all I wanted was some respectable and entertaining basketball. We've gotten that and then some. Im going to enjoy the ride through the rest of the season and any potential post season we have coming. NIT just means more games to watch and more games for the freshman to develop. Bring it on

NIT is a good goal
Might be the only reasonable goal, but a little early for it
Hoping for team to make a winning run for reSt of season and play in B1G tourney give RU a chance for the dance.
If not NIT will be better than players sitting at home
But I expect them to start showing RU's NCAA material and go dancing
Since I am wrong about as much as I'm right don't expect an I told you so when RU gets its invite
No sense bragging when I don't go out of my way to announce when I'm wrong

True about the B10 tournament. Purdue and Illinois will be on opposite sides of the bracket.

We could get to the final by beating one of them or by beating the team that beat one of them,

Once you get to the final, anything can happen.

We haven’t made a conference tourney final in 35 years . We haven’t made the semis in 26 years
We haven’t been good in the BIG tournament . We have never gotten past the quarters. So yeah I would love a shot in the BIG final . Sign me up

Because you posted that 10-10 would be about the 15th team out . That means we need to go 5-1 to have a shot . That is going to be tough . Not impossible, but tough. That’s why I posted “could”

Enough with the NIT is for loser stuff. We’ve largely sucked for the past 40 years.

Off the top of my head, I think we’ve had less than seven NCAA appearances during that time, and certainly not made much noise once in

A few years ago we would’ve all loved the NIT. Let’s make a few deep runs into the NCAA’s before we declare our self too good for the NIT.

It’s an arrogant attitude and one that we do not deserve to have given our Lack of success historically

I don’t think anyone is saying we are too good for the NIT. Just that it’s a loser bracket . College basketball is all about making the ncaa tournament. For most programs, making the ncaa tournament or not is the sole judge of your season . I think that’s where we are at . Credit to pike for building the program up so that is the metric

You need to build a program, and a way to do that is to have more practices more games and more exposure

The NIT is the next best thing to the NCAA, and let’s hope after next year, we don’t have to worry about the NIT again anytime in our lifetimes

totally

"NIT is for losers"... puhleaaze.

hey Plum - we aint Duke/ kentucky/ UNC .

this year an NIT bid would not be a total loss by any stretch. in fact, as others have said, considering where this season was just 2 weeks ago, having the team turn-it-around and EARN an NIT bid would be a solid accomplishment. plus the benefit of some tourney experience, etc, etc.

while still hoping for the NCAAs (with the SLIGHT chance still remaining). I will be totally fine with the NIT this year.

Program is built . This isn’t year 1 or 2 .
Pike and knight have been here 8 years.

Playing well in the NIT or playing has no effect on next years team.
But if that’s were we are selected to go, then so be it .

It would be an accomplishment coming from the view point they didn’t mail it in. Made something of the season

As someone above posted, if NCAA doesn’t happen, use the B1G tourney and NIT as prep for next year.

It's not built to last, yet

We made 2 tourney's in a row (3 with covid), then backtracked and NIT last year and likely this year

We're in the toughest conference in the nation, with more hammers coming in
We're way behind the 8 ball in NIL

Next year is killer, but we can't ignore the misses of the past few years
NIT this year would be good, but I'm hoping it's the last one for quite awhile

yeah.

I dont think anyone is going to be dojng cartwheels over an NIT bid but would a small positive when just a few weeks ago the season appeared to be totally in the toilet.
