If there is evidence of anyone at Duke doing the same, offering money for a recruit, then we deserve to be sanctioned. However, I have faith in the integrity of the program and Coach K and would like to believe that we would not stoop to this behaviour.

Since Ariz paid $100,000 for Ayton, I wonder how much they offered Bagley.
I believe USC offered also, guess Bagley wasn't for sale.

Although I believe Coach K didn't pay Bagley, I found it hard to believe that both Zona and USC didn't offer anything to Bagley

USC did offer all Bagely’s brothers scholarships. Bagely’s dad seems smarter
than that. Why risk ten of millions of dollars for a hundred thousand dollars. It makes no sense.

Again, I don't think Duke paid Bagley. I'm just saying I'm finding it hard to believe that zona and usc offered nothing for him. Also, him taking $100K doesn't jeopardize his future. Ayton is still going to be a top 3 pick

Let’s get this straight...the players aren’t risking a thing. They don’t get in trouble for taking the money. The NBA could care less if they took money. Hell the NBA already know this is going on behind closed doors. They just want the players. The school they go to get the hit.

Players risk their morals and integrity. They know taking money from an agent is wrong. Taking these small amounts of money and compromising your values is foolish. Clearly with your line of thinking, you have no moral values

What’s interesting to me is the number of programs in the report. If the NCAA decides to hit everyone...will they really do it?

It seems that winning in college basketball trumps all honesty for many teams, especially the successful ones but I just don't see why Duke would need to be shady to get the best recruits.

You must’ve been privileged growing up huh? You may not know but a lot of us black kids aren’t privileged growing up. That $100k is of great use. Once again you are conpromising anything. You don’t get in trouble for it. And clearly people outside of some Duke fans except the fact that money is being passed around behind closed doors.

It’s not Duke. It’s the agents or big money boosters.

You must not be an NBA player or future lottery pick. I fully appreciate that a lot of these kids go through hell and their families sacrifice everything to get them to a point where they are highy sought after. It may seem like a ton of money at the time, but it pales in comparison to what they will make in the NBA. By the time someone is waving this type of money in front of these families, a professional payday isn’t that far off. Those with moral values and some discipline can wait another year or 2 for gratification

What part of it doesn’t affect their NBA money don’t you understand? They still get shoe deals and all of that. It doesn’t affect the kids. It’s the way of the world whether you want to accept it or not

Also it’s usually the parents that take it. That’s an extra year of money coming in before the big bucks

What part of ‘not everything in life is about money’ do you not get? You clearly have no morals, so my reasoning is lost on you. Maybe one day you will understand, I sure hope so

Ok you know. Duke is the only school that has no players involved in this. They have the super pitch. Gotcha

Duke: Don’t accept money from all of those outside people. Just come to Duke and people will believe you have morals. None of our players need to take money. Your one year of school at Duke is all you need. Why take $100k from an agent. You’re gonna make millions. Do you really want to hurt this university by taking $100k to help your family?

Mind you Coach K stated that kids are getting paid before they even get to college. “Before these kids ever come to us, we are not the only ones recruiting these youngsters. Talent is being recruited all the time in every shape and form.”
Even Coach K knows what’s going on. Doesn’t matter if he or the school personally participates in it. In the end the school gets in trouble. It’s funny that some of you think these kids care what you think about them. They’re trying to feed their family.

I have not made any claims about Duke’s innocence or guilt. I hope Duke is on the right side of this, but it would be naive to think current and past players and their families weren’t approached or offered compensation by agents, hopefully on behalf of schools or agendas other than Duke’s. Clearly they likely were approached as evidenced by the claim Carter’s mom accepted a meal invitation. I am hopeful those that ended up at Duke took the higher road and avoided such temptations.

Some people are taking it personal. I’m just saying what people don’t want to say. These kids are getting paid. Back when I came out of high school my family and I were offered and accepted money. Sometimes they just send it to you without even telling you before hand. And it’s not directly from someone in the program. Boosters will send you money. Hell one school had people over management at my godfathers job and they gave him a brand new truck, big raise and promoted him up the chain. There’s all kind of ways they funnel money to these players. On my visit to a school the recruiting coordinator pulled out a big roll of money and gave me and my friend $1k. Neither one of us went to that school but we damn sure didn’t give that money back.

Football and track. Can’t disclose my school. I’m no snitch. I know I can’t get in trouble. But they can. They took care of me too well for me to snitch.

I just find it funny and a little annoying that you act like you know everything, and treat us like ignorant fans that have false hope. Until I hear otherwise, I think Duke runs a clean program. Now we can't control kids who get paid before they get here, but I also believe K tries his best to recruit kids who aren't involved in those transactions.

There are some systemic shenanigans that it is either impossible or extremely difficult for schools to steer completely clear of. Then there is a coach wittingly tracking 5 and 6 figure payments. I think what we are all hoping, and maybe even confident in, is that Duke is not part of the latter

How would he know who’s involved? They won’t tell him. You have false hope. You’re hoping Duke isn’t involved. Remember majority of the people on here believed Duke or a Duke player wouldn’t be associated with this FBI probe. Guess what though. One was. It was minor and probably will end up harmless because of the dollar amount but his family was involved. Excuse me for being a realist and not sugarcoating stuff

Come on are you serious!?!?!? Go to Duke and play for Coach K, the GOAT, tons of TV exposure, play in the toughest and bet conference in the nation....or you can go to USC or Zona. Who offers nothing that Duke would or does.

I couldn't agree more that things need to change, and player need some sort of compensation. But to just write Duke off as corrupt doesn't sound very fan-like. Like I said I'll remain optimistic and if things go wayward, then so be it.
