That website is literally impossible to read on my browser it skips around so much. Care to copy and paste if you get a chance? Thanks

CU coach Mel Tucker was talking about recruiting.

"There are kids right now that you (ask), ‘Well, who are your top guys?’ And they’ll say, ‘Nebraska.’
“And you look and say, ‘Well, what has Nebraska done?’ But in their mind, that’s like way, way better than CU.”

Yes, While he is not wrong. In the very short term (3 years) we have had similar success. Long term there is not even a comparison. I understand what he said probably wasn't meant as a shot at Nebraska. Just something in my opinion that seems silly to say. I think many will view it as a shot and it will only add motivation.

Summary:

1) Colorado coach acknowledges that the Buffaloes suck.
2) This makes recruiting harder
3) Nebraska has also sucked at CU levels recently. Therefore Colorado coach thinks that Colorado recruits should consider Colorado more.

What he is voicing as a frustration is the truth. If both programs are on a similar level, whether that be awful, average, good, or great, NU is a far better place to be. The short-term (3-5 years) difference between the programs would have to be significant in order to change that.

Buff coach: Who are your top schools?
Recruits: Nebraska
Buff coach: What have they done?
Recruit: More than CU.

Lol. Buff coach has come to the realization, even though Nebraska has flat out stunk the past few years, that Nebraska is a much better option over Colorado in the eyes of local recruits.

I think he is doing more than just stating the obvious. I sense here also an attempt at deflection, knowing that his job will, in a few years, be in jeopardy if he doesn’t recruit better. He is kind of saying “hey folks, if this goes south don’t blame me, I tried my best, but you just can’t sell CU to these kids”.

He knows damn well why Nebraska is a more attractive option for top athletes than CU. Because other than the coolness of Boulder and the surrounding natural beauty, there just isn’t anything else about CU that is better than Nebraska with regard to football. They can’t even sell out their tiny stadium for big games, while we pack it to the brim even for the games against nobody. ****, we sell 80,000 tickets for a damn spring scrimmage. They couldn’t get 15,000 even if they gave tickets away with a free bag of weed. Add in our tradition, facilities, academic support, and coaching staff, it is a no brainer as to why we win head to head recruiting battles against CU.

Now we need to rub their scum noses in their inferiority by giving them a beat down in September. Payback for their dirty play last year.

Someone tell me one statement that was not the truth in the article? I will give him credit for saying he doesn't talk about other schools, negative recruiting. He merely stated a fact that when he is talking to recruits in Colorado, they view the Husker program in a more positive light than the Colorado one. He then states the way to fix that perception is to win. Duh. Not sure why this is even controversial at all unless people are just looking for something.

Years ago when I was in the college business we had to recruit students. I always told my recruiters to NEVER say anything negative about another school, just talk about what we had to offer. A key thing to remember, and this stuck in my head for years - people's perception IS their reality. So just the perception that Nebraska is on the upswing and CU is not becomes the reality but clearly by looking at the records it is is not.

Nothing to see here really.

I saw nothing of ilk geared towards Nebraska. That being said, there are some good players in Colorado up for grabs, hope Nebraska gets a few.

He's not wrong. Neither program is relevant right now. CU at least played in their conference championship game a few years ago. We haven't even won our division since 2012. It's kind of surprising that so many recruits in Colorado still have interest in Nebraska, since they weren't even born the last time we won a conference championship.

I sure look forward to the day when we can have a debate around here that centers on what an actually relevant football program/fanbase thinks of us. Right now we're just over in the corner with the goofballs arguing amongst ourselves! Winking

Just shows you that despite Nebraska’s recent woes, Nebraska is still a must draw for college football fans in Colorado, whether they like Nebraska or not.

And bad publicity is still publicity, so to speak, Nebraska simply is a brand that folks have an interest in, be it the recent demise, or the perceived notion that Frost & Co will float the boat back up and be competitive in the B1G and beyond. It’s not hard to see why Colorado kids would still be interested.

I reject the idea that Nebraska isn’t “relevant” anymore. To be sure, we haven’t been relevant with regard to championships of any kind in about 20 years. And if that doesn’t change soon then we wont be “relevant” in any way.

We are still relevant in the same way Miami, USC, and Tennessee are relevant. Nothing much to brag about on the field in a long time, but still members of college football’s royalty. I could even toss Texas in there. They had a decent season last year and seem on the way up. But really, they haven’t done crap in a long while either.

What do some of you guys expect him to say?

Recruit: Well my top choice is Nebraska
Colorado Coach: Oh man, it should be, let me tell you a little bit about their amazing history!

Come on

He's not wrong about the Huskers, but I think he's delusional about the current state of CU within their own state.

Colorado has been to one bowl game since 2007. If you're a current senior in high school, the Buffs have only had one winning season since you were in Kindergarten. Nebraska has only missed bowls twice, the last two seasons, during that same time frame.

Just because an HC, player, or opponent says something that is true doesn't mean it can't be used as motivation for the team. I agree this was probably more of him whining vs him taking a jab at Nebraska. Just found it interesting that he seemed to not understand the difference between CU and Nebraska and why kids are drawn more towards Neb.

Yes, I agree, but at least Colorado can offer you a chance to see a Mascot blow his nuts off during home games.LaughingLaughingLaughing

Actually, Ralphie is a female, males tend to be a bit too much for the artificial cowboys at cu to handle. ;)

I think they get 15k for a free bag of weed if they properly advertise ;)
