The guys had two scrimmages yesterday. The first was against Brown where they played the starters and two deep. Brown got completely run over. Final score was 19-4 according to the most official scoresheet that was distributed. A lot of assisted goals which was good to see.

The second scrimmage was against Bryant where the starters/two deep sat and exclusively other players. Bryant won the game by a few but I wouldn't read into that. It should also be noted that we had 9 guys in street clothes who are expected to start or play significant minutes.

Great day for the program.

Did the 9 starters/two-deep players play in the Brown game and sit against Bryant? Or did they sit both games?

They sat both games. I was mistaken. It was actually 10. All 10 are guys you will either see starting or playing significant roles. Two of our starting Dmids were out was Colin Kelly and Colin Kurdyla. They will play massive roles provided good health.

If we owned the middle of the field against Brown with the players we did have suit up, it would have been a lot worse with our full roster.

Silver lining is our young players are getting a lot of action. Some of them redshirted last year due to injury like Sommer, or he would have had a lot more experience.

Injuries are never an excuse, but we had more last year than I can ever remember. It stunted the growth of you the younger guys who had to sit out but it is what it is. Good to see a number of them out there now.

How was Brown’s health?

Don't know about the current team, but the NCAA just granted Brown grad Devon McClane a 2nd post grad year at Notre Dame. Remember the Ivies had a second season of no lacrosse in '21. I think he was HM AA in '19 and was a major contributor for the Irish last year.

I'm not going to sugarcoat this year. We are very, very young. Unfortunately, a lot of our young guys were hurt last year and didn't go through the growing pains we needed them to. That will happen this year.

Good news is there is a lot of talent, the guys work hard and they are connected. But they need experience. Experience you only get through playing. That old adage of get old stay old is an adage for a reason.

I'll have more but we will see the gamut this year, from infuriating young mistakes to wow plays that make you see what the future will hold. How fast they get there, we will see. Things are coming along nicely fall, I will say.

Hahaha Rutgers biggest fan just can’t stay away. Just as I predicted! You know you have a program when you have haters.

Guy is a total zero. But a fan nonetheless. So great!

I’d make a bet with the guy but there is zero chance he’d pay.

you say the same thing every time almost verbatim. "you know you have a program when you have haters"...it's like you're trying to convince yourself that it's true. you might go 1-5 again but at least you have a hater! that's more important than winning games

I think this is fair and Rutgers reminds me a lot of PSU from 2022. They have a lot of potential and certainly have very good kids. Still, any schedule that includes the B10 slate and Princeton and Army will provide opportunities for upsets. I expect this team to be much better during the Conference schedule. Anyone who looks at recruiting rankings alone fails to understand the limits of those rankings and how recruiting works. Most schools recruit to a scheme so that their transition is quicker and there are many reasons not to recruit a kid.

Agreed. It hasn't happened every time but it has more often than not. Brecht teams almost always are playing their best ball at the end of the season.

The other factor is outside of a few teams who are coming in with NC expectations, this season is wide open. Particularly the B1G. Hopkins, OSU, Michigan all have holes to fill.

They of course recruit well and have some transfers to help but there are question marks all over the conference.

See that folks are starting to post schedules for 2025. Looks like we scrimmage Jacksonville on 1/18?

Yes. @IMG which is a solid scrimmage for recruiting. This also gives the new guys an opportunity to experience how we travel, which will help during the season.
