Scribner-Snyder looking to merge again

SS has been on the merry-go-round for awhile now when it comes to merging. 1970’s with LV, 1990’s with LV again, 2010 the district nearly folded, and now. The numbers have been dwindling even more for 10 years now. Scribner’s population has shrunk by over 100 people in 10 years.

Scribner-Snyder is lucky to have 3 really good options all less than 25 miles away. (Also Howells-Dodge is 20 miles away, GACC is 12 miles away) C1 sized schools are not bad, hell Scribner was a large class C in the late 70’s.

It does sadly. Logan View, WPB, GACC, Howells-Dodge and North Bend are all great options for kids to go. Scribner’s enrollment has dropped like crazy in the last decade. Keeping the buildings running everyday for not many students just doesn’t seem logical. They aren’t getting more kids to enroll at Scribner-Snyder.

Like I said earlier, at least SS kids have plenty of great options. Not many towns/schools are in their situation. They have 4 public school and 1 private school option all within 20 miles. That’s pretty great.

There are 50+ school district's state wide that have a smaller student population, but still operate as an independent district (with cooping sports/activities). Scribner-Snyder has new buildings, new curriculum, updated technology, 1-to-1 laptops, and $1.8+ million in reserves. All team sports are co-oped with a Logan View already, so you can't make the argument about forfeiting contests anymore. The only sports Scribner-Snyder still has are the individual sports such as Wrestling and Track. A student can graduate with 30+ dual credits. Average high school classroom student to teacher ratio is around 8:1. Scribner-Snyder is also the only school anywhere close that has an eSports Team, which has 14 members out. Scribner-Snyder has band, chorus, musical, a school newspaper and is also competitive in Speech, One-Act, and boasts a Yearbook that was recognized and won several state-wide awards.

What more opportunities would a student at Scribner-Snyder gain by closing their doors and merging with a neighboring school disctrict?

Well, it has earned students college scholarships, so, like it or not, it is a good thing. The students doing eSports would most likely not be involved in other sports anyways. Would you rather have them practicing after school for eSports or running around town raising hell?

This is what Scribner residents need to take away from this. Quality education. In 5-10 years with Scribner-Snyder, the numbers aren’t going to be high. They won’t be Class B. LV is 7 miles away, it’s not far. Be thankful students won’t have to drive 30 miles one way. Kids south and west of Snyder can look at North Bend or Dodge/Howells.
