A lot of big great athletes choose football over wrestling for the money or popularity aspect, but a lot of them don't choose wrestling because the training is too hard as well, most of them couldn't cut it in wrestling.

I think it’s more that if Wirfs would’ve stuck with wrestling that Wyatt couldn’t even hang.

Football talent and wrestling talent are not necessarily the same thing. A lot of great football players would never make great wrestlers. Football players exert really hard for about 7 seconds and then rest for 30 seconds, and then do it again. Wrestlers, wrestle really hard for 7 straight minutes without all the rest. Then there are the excruciating practices. Not to mention the biggest athletes would have to cut weight to get down to 285. Wrestling is far harder mentally and physically. Certainly, some of the best football players would be wrestling champions, but probably not as many as some people think.

Talent is talent. Look at Steveson.

IF, culturally and socioeconomically, college wrestling/prowrestling were a money maker with millions of fans, the sport would be dominated by the genetic freaks that inhabit the NFL.

So it's just an observation for the sake of trolling, because wrestling isn't a big 4 pro league. It's a nonsensical argument. If NFL athletes didn't have the NFL and water polo was America's #1 sport, they'd dominate that as well. It's a dumb conversation starter.

If all football players went into wrestling instead yes, the talent pool would look different. SO hard to stomach. lol

Of course if all NFL players tried out for wrestling the talent pool would be much larger and the quality of wrestlers overall would go up. I don't think anyone is arguing to the contrary. To what extent is the question. It might not be quite as clear cut as some think. "Talent" is not "talent". Giant NFL players suck at cross country, the Tour De France, long distance swimming, skiing, I could go on and on. Many would suck at wrestling too and not have the flexibility, endurance, mental toughness etc... but of course some would be great at it and be champions.
Are Jax and Vega national champions because of their freakish strength? Nobody their size plays in the NFL or the NBA so the talent pool is massive for them. sShouldn't all the small muscled up freaks of the world be destroying these two?

I do think that the 215 weight class in high school has improved the talent pool for college 285. It gave a place for those tweeners to develop and stick with wrestling instead of giving it up.
