I'm far more worried about the offense than the refs.Rutgers can't have long scoring droughts like what happened against Iowa.Baker and Harper need to score early and often.

Here's a link to an article on their homeboard about where they're at. Of note:

"Notre Dame will make its first NCAA Tournament appearance since the 2016-17 season and its 37th in program history. It's the 13th trip to the tournament for Notre Dame during head coach Mike Brey's 22 seasons leading the Irish.

Graduate senior forward Paul Atkinson Jr. is the only player on Notre Dame's roster to previously play in the NCAA Tournament. He played in the tournament in 2019 as a No. 14 seed with Yale. The Bulldogs lost to LSU in the first round."

Having a tough time evaluating ND just on their record. It's hard to impress given the mediocrity of so many ACC teams.

Harper will be matched up against a 6'10 guy. No big deal, he has done it before.
Exactly. He's a force driving into the paint they will need to stop. He's guarded bigger guys all season. More worried about rotating to the ball on the perimeter.

Ron guards Laszewski, as he is a good three point shooter. Cliff guards Atkinson, as he just doesn’t shoot threes at all.

Looking at ND's last 10 games, this was their rotation (no one else played more than 10 total min):

344 min - Prentiss Hubb - 10.5 pts [38/85 FG (.447), 17/49 3P (.347)], 3.9 rb, 4.8 ast, 1.6 tov
327 min - Dane Goodwin - 12.5 pts [50/101 FG (.495), 15/43 3P (.349)], 4.8 rb, 1.7 ast, 1.1 tov
327 min - Cormac Ryan - 11.0 pts [36/67 FG (.537), 19/38 3P (.500)], 5.7 rb, 2.6 ast, 0.8 tov
311 min - Blake Wesley - 15.7 pts [55/122 FG (.451), 18/48 3P (.375], 4.1 rb, 2.0 ast, 1.4 stl, 2.3 tov
285 min - Paul Atkinson - 12.7 pts - [46/88 FG (.523), 0/0 3P], 7.7 rb, 2.1 ast, 2.5 tov
228 min - Nate Laszewski (9 games) - 10.0 pts [31/55 FG (.564), 16/32 3P (.500)], 5.0 rb, 0.4 ast, 0.9 tov
171 min - Trey Wertz - 4.7 pts [16/32 FG (.500), 10/19 3P (.526)], 1.8 rb, 1.2 ast, 0.7 tov

They have been very balanced across these 7 guys across the last 10 games:
- 6 have averaged double digits
- 6 have averaged .347 or better from the arc (with at least 1 3PA per 10 min played)
- 6 have averaged at least 4.1 rb/g
- 5 have averaged at least 2.0 ast/g

Other notes across the last 10 games:
- 41.6% of their attempts have been from the arc
- They've been very efficient scoring the ball: 41.5% from 3P, 55.1% from 2P, 77.7% from FT
- Even with 2 starters standing 6-10, they've only had 7 total blocks in 10 games
- They've averaged 12.4 fouls per game
- They've just 5.4 ORB/g (19.1% of their misses) and 28.1 DRB/g

I saw them against Illinois. Their bigs are tall but more like stretch 4s than 5s. They were dominated by Kofi (he does that to a lot of people but that game was particularly rough to watch). I think Cliff has the opportunity to really put up some numbers if he stays out of foul trouble.

Any chance Dean gets a few minutes at the 4 if Ron against the 6'10 fella isn't working?

I don't think Ron should have much trouble but I think Reiber should get some playing time at the 4 regardless. Would love to see a big lineup with Cliff, Reiber, and Ron out there at the same time. Ideally when Wesley is out and we can give McConnell a breather. Sit Reiber in the corner and break that zone. He won't be a defensive liability when ND is playing Laszewski and Atkinson.

I'm very worried about the whistle. Normally, I don't get concerned until I see what I feel are a few bad calls. But the difference between Rutgers' prestige and ND's in the sports world is huge. Let's hope they don't get the kind of calls--especially endgame--on the court that they do on the gridiron.

I started watching the ND vs. Duke game from January on YouTube, and wow was that a lot of bad basketball. ND"s interior defense didn't look that great, but Duke just kept missing a ton of shots. It looked like ND did a lot of curling penetration to the lane, either to the rim or to kick out - and their bigs were looking to draw a double and kick.

Will try a different game - that one was a lot of missed shots and sloppy ball on both sides.
