Scott Frost coaching tree

This morning I noticed ASU promoted a coach to DC, as the 2019 incumbent was recently hired as head coach at New Mexico. When Edwards was hired two years ago, ASU’s AD stated that he was going to be more of an elder statesman/CEO who would groom ASU’s two young holdover coordinators with one eventually succeeding Herm. The plan immediately blew up as both guys left sending Herm scrambling for a new DC. Now that DC has received a HC job.

I realize TO’s coaching tree was thin compared to someone like Hayden Fry and no one would have traded TO’s coaching record for Fry’s. Maybe we are just lucky Scott’s staff has stayed intact. It certainly helped recruiting. But it strikes me odd that no one has left especially since most of them are not native Nebraskans.

When results (W-L) improve you’ll see guys get opportunities elsewhere.
Guys like Held and Fisher have had plenty of opportunities. These guys all decided to come together, even guys that had always been in the south or were UCF alums, so they are a pretty tight nit, loyal group. I could see guys leaving for promotions, Walters wants to be HC, as an example.

Could it be that nobody is particularly impressed with their P5 conference performance thus far? I realize several on here are, but outside our bubble, we are a joke right now. Hope it changes, but it’s the current reality.

Dawson left after the first year.

I am still wondering about Walters. He has been mysteriously MIA. I am wondering if he is interviewing for jobs? I could see him going to another Power 5 school as a play-calling OC.

Why do people here constantly make TO comparisons as if Frost is indeed the next TO? Nothing is guaranteed and the whole landscape has changed. I be happy if they were focused on improving and competing as best they can. Hopefully the staff goes to some good coaching clinics for advice and improvement.

Completely agree with this. Scott has a different personality than Tom and of course is not the same person. I don't like to see people project onto Scott how he has to be like Tom or that he even hold the same values as him. For Scott to be a success, he does not have to be Tom. He could end up being a whole lot better too.. but let's not hit the hype button just yet.

You don’t think they are focused on improving and competing as best they can?

Pretty sure they will be attending any coaching clinics, as they aren’t JH coaches.

Why do people here constantly misinterpret what should be obvious? I just noted the fact a coach may not have a large coaching tree doesn’t necessarily mean much. If I hadn’t made that comment someone surely would have mentioned it. I’d be happy to replace TO with another long term coach who has a rather scrawny coaching tree to make my point if you can suggest one and it makes you happy.

You can’t win for losing some days.

Belichick and TO have piss poor coaching trees given how great of coaches they were/are Why? They did everything and never let their assistants sink or swim. Andy Reid on the other hand loves teaching the coaching profession to young coaches. He has a phenominal coaching tree. Its not necessarily a good or bad thing to have a coaching tree. It has more to do with your style as a head coach than anything.

Sorry, maybe I did miss your point. Not a comparison per se.
