I agree 100%. There are tons of other cool, bad-*** animals they could choose from. I always wanted to see a school named the Hippos. Talk about some mean, ornery creatures.

Don't get me started on "Vikings".

As far as Reagan, they should've named it the Reagan Voodoo. That would've been awesome.

I was really talking about naming it after a President. Naming it after someone that didn't have a single contribution to an area is lame. President's should get schools in their home state or towns.

Reagan should have been Old Richmond or Pfafftown High School. The mascot is lame too though.

Those economics where voodoo though. HW got it. It's a shame we don't have more Republicans like him anymore. Too bad though he was too much of a coward to stick to it and fell in line like they all do.

Asheboro should change to the Hippos since they are in zoo town.

The high school kids at Bowman & Harris got to suggest names and colors for Mitchell's colors and mascot. I believe my brother wanted green and if I remember right the Spartans but he didn't like the Mountaineers thought to common.
If course I still don't like them taking out the gold of Mitchell's colors never understood how a few people at the school got to do that on their own.

How about the Chupacabras for a mascot ? LOL Just another wild idea.
Will make a heck of a mascot. They only suck the blood out of animals.

One of many different photos and some look different.

MA is little strange. They not Bears they are Granite Bears. In part bc city of MA is largest open face Granite Quarry in the world.

I've always liked that mascot because part of it is relative to the area.

Elkin's mascot is relative to folklore in the area.

South Stokes to a former tribe in the area.

If I remember hearing right there used to be a Greyhound station next to North Surry. Maybe Slasher can confirm or maybe he's the one that said it before.

Everyone else's mascot's in the area are as generic as it gets.

Poor Alleghany has the Trojans while being located in Sparta.

As for Freedom, the Overmountain Men forded the Catawba river just behind the stadium on their way to Kings Mountain. They had spent the previous night at Quarter Meadows just up the road which is where the two columns of soldiers, one from Tennessee and one from Virginia, came together with troops from NC to march to the battle. So, I’m perfectly comfortable with us being the Patriots.

The bus stationed was moved so much I can't remember all the locations. Was uptown, was across from the hospital, last location I think was in Toast at stoplight. They were Greyhounds way before that.

Before North Surry was consolidated in 1959 with the High Schools of Franklin, Beulah, Low Gap, White Plains, and Flatrock, only Flat Rock (six-man) and Franklin (11 man) had football teams. Franklin as people in Surry County know was located in Franklin close to where North Surry is today, and their team mascot was the Bulldogs. Keeping the new mascot in the dog family, they settled on the Greyhounds.
