How long until the GOP follows Harry Reid's precedent and nukes the filibuster for SCOTUS nominees? Harry nuked the filibuster for Presidential appointments and lower court judges, but not SCOTUS picks. If Schumer carries out this threat, McConnell will nuke the filibuster for SCOTUS. I am just not sure how much rope McConnell will give to Schumer.

The other question, of course, are the Dem Senators from red states that Trump won. I think there are 10 of them. Do they want to go on record this early for opposing Trump on his SCOTUS pick? Will be interesting and if they do, will almost ensure Trump campaigns heavily against their reelection. I can almost imagine the tweets now.

Dem Senators are in for the fight of their lives in the mid-terms. Lots at stake in 18 for the DNC.

The may Manchin is behaving, you'd think he be a Republican. He announced today that he is not going to attend Obama's Obamacare revival meeting. He is desperately trying to save his job.

Is there any real sense any R in the state of WV can beat him? I know it's 2 years off, but I'm not seeing it.

My brother agrees with you. But 2 years is a long time and if Manchin opposes popular Trump policies and Trump actively campaigns against him, anything is possible. Especially if Trump is popular in WV at that time.

I agree it's possible, but he did win in 2012 with Obama on the ticket.

Go Schumer!

If the Dems filibuster a nominee, I think McConnell follow Reid's example and nukes the filibuster. Schumer can't win. He may not be able to convince the 10 vulnerable Senators up for reelection to join the filibuster. Either way, Trump is going to get his nominee. The Dems filibustering only hurts them in the eyes of the public.

Turnabout is fair play.

That's true and that is why McConnell will nuke the filibuster following Reid's own lead. Reid even said before the election, he would nuke the filibuster for SCOTUS if the GOP filibusters a Dem nominee.

Like. you said, turnabout is fair play.

Your position is flawed in that it's a no-win situation for the DNC. They can't stop it. The GOP can nuke the filibuster and push it through with a simple majority and the GOP controls the majority.

All it will do is delay the process but not long enough for the midterms to take affect. If the Dems even try to block it, there are quite a few up for re-election in the midterms in Red states. It would likely cost the DNC even more seats in the Senate.

In short, you're fvcked, bubba.
