I’m wondering if they’ll have to phase out the scholly limits since the free year will throw off numbers for a few years.Got this of another message board. Between the 4 game RS rule and everyone keeping their eligibility from this season, we will have 54 scholarship freshman next year. How do we ever get this to balance out?
We got a bunch of young guys we need to develop into productive, experienced guys.
It’s up to coaches to make it happen.
They need to just give every player 5 years of eligibility from now on. Get rid of "redshirt" years.
The really good players are going to go pro after Year 3 or 4 anyway. The not-so-good players will hang it up after 4 years or transfer to lower-level schools.

Nebraska is absolutely blessed to have such a dilemma. Like it or not we have a developmental program. NU has not gotten and retained immediate-impact playmakers. Nebraska is in a position of needing to find something in guys in their 3rd-6th years.
This team and this staff needs all the time it can get in any way it can get it.
It will be a lot easier to balance than we think. The attrition we've seen over the past several years from a variety of causes is not going away. Just look at how tiny this senior class was. That was never by design, these guys were once part of a full class. Now they're all that's left.
I expect a lot of transfer activity over the next few years as guys from these classes are finding themselves stuck behind upperclassmen who have been given an extra year.
Remember also that just because they have the eligibility doesn't mean they'll take the eligibility. We'll see the question each year for a while of whether guys are going to come back, take a shot at the NFL, or retire. Just like we did this year.
