I think that Vol fans researched Schiano and saw how in 2010, he gave up 69 points to first year Cincinnati HC Butch Jones, LOL. Butch went 4-8 on the year, but routed RU as Greg couldn't stop the spread offense.

But yet Greg beat Butch the second time around in 2011.

Shocked by the reaction. The Sandusky accusations, based on triple hearsay voiced by McCreary, who did witness abuse, are a diversion. Their fans just think, absurdly in my opinion, that GS is not good enough as a coach. I would take GS any day over Kiffin and Butch Jones.

Stewart Mandel, a very respected sportswriter, says:

The immediate backlash in Tennessee is far worse than I expected. I thought it would be the UT Boosters who would try to veto this deal. The PSU allegations, unproven, will get the general public emotionally involved against hiring Greg.

This AD just put himself in the hole by floating this story about a possible Greg hire. UT fans will not trust the AD after this.

From a former Rock Top writer:
Wow if true.

OSU will be under pressure to fire him?

For what?

If OSU were to actually fire Schiano over this Sandusky link, he'll never have to work another day in his life - and neither will his kids.

Very ugly backlash. If this does not work out it will be interesting to see who they wind up with. Sumlin? Regarding Greg's time at RU, he did some wonderful things to build the program to a certain point and yes he looks better every day given what has transpired since he left, however he appeared to have peaked at RU and could not take advantage of a weakened Big East Conference and get us over the hump. Game day was generally not his friend and I believe there would have been a real debate on this board if he was up for another extension as he got to the end of his last contract.

He'd have to be crazy to take that job. If he loses two in a row they're going to be burning his house down.

If the backlash forces Tennessee to move on and/or Schiano to back out ,Greg's chances of being hired by
a P-5 program this year is probably in the dumpster.
I'm sure Urban will bring Greg back for one more year because of their friendship if Schiano wants , but probably will advise to take a G-5 HC position because
the same might happen next year.
This type of fan reaction could sour most P-5s on hiring Greg in the future and Greg will need to prove himself capable at a G-5 spot to overcome the leprosy the Tennessee fans just put upon him.

Looks more like a Miley Cyrus with a goatee lookalike.

While I agree with others that the Sandusky link is a smokescreen for the real concern that Rocky Top thinks they should get a better coach than GS, he may need to address the Sandusky matter directly to take it off the table for this and any other high profile position he may otherwise be in line for going forward. He should forcefully state that he had no knowledge of what was going on there while at PSU.

Who is out there that is a guarantee winner? I see Jim Fisher jumping ship to TexasAM before they fire him in 1-2 years at Florida State. Smart move.

Florida State, Miss State, Arizona State, UCF,Oregon State and Arkansas still looking for HC. There are not 5 candidates that are better than Schiano

These hillbillies will be trying to get rid of Coach tonight and will be banging their sisters in the men's room of the local bar tomorrow night! But I guess it's kinda OK seeing as how they are also their wives!

It's you not understanding football and what coaching football at RU is like.
Lol. I know exactly what he did here and appreciate it. The real problem is our fans who have romanticized him to a point they don't remember his actual time here. Here are some reminders.
From 2006 on he was 500 in the BE
He had a losing record against teams with winning records.
He never finished above 3rd in recruiting in the BE
Never went to a BCS bowl but UCONN and Cindy could
Shall I continue?

Basically this shows that Greg is gonna have to re-prove himself at a lower level program LIKE the USF job he was in serious contention last year ... a big job like Tennessee with their outlandish expectations despite the fact that they've done nothing for 20 years is not a direction that seems plausible right now.

Regardless of what anyone on this board feels about what he did or didn't do at Rutgers, he doesn't deserve that type of treatment by that school and I hope their next hire proves disastrous.
