I would love to chime in and put them in their place but: it has taken some time for him to do so and I disagreed with someone about Greg getting a P-5 job once he returned to coaching ranks. I said he would and the other person said at a mid major at best, but more than likely a DC position at a P-5 school at first.Where are all our posters who said Schiano would never get a big P5 job?
And another.
Huh? Schiano was their third (last) option after Gruden and Mullen per their boards so not sure who you are calling a tool. Their fanbase is in hysterics right now because again because they wanted Gruden so bad.
That's pretty much it if you're getting into a high profile job.Happy for Greg but surprised he would throw himself into such a brutal job site. But, most big jobs are probably just as brutal. Good luck to him.
When Schiano fails at Tennessee- I can hear the excuses now.. "It's bc he's a an east coast guy." Tennesse will lose alot of games the next couple years
H'll last just like anyone else Tennessee hires, win and stay. Lose and be gone in 3 years or less.Btw, I see the reaction in Twitter has been overwhelmingly negative.
I can't see him lasting more than 1-3 years tops.
Dan Mullen to Florida btw.
No worries. Their fanbase was all in on Gruden and is in complete meltdown mode. It's really ridiculous for the Tenn legislature to get involved and for some of the fans to be calling Greg "Schiandusky."This from the school that hired Butch Jones and
Sorry, I thought you meant they were hard up and had to settle! Misinterpretation. My bad. Remove tool and we can save it for the Tenn legislature
Looks like Schiano may be backing out of the deal
I was wondering if that might happen. Rich Rod at Michigan as noted above is a cautionary tale. I mean he doesn't really need the money.Looks like Schiano may be backing out of the deal
from 2006 on he was 21-21 in conference. You Need a new argumentYou're again missing how bad the perception of RU is, which tempers how bad that looks. The .500 number is also ******** used to make a point, given that it's driven by all tjose losses that came while he was building things from scratch.
I agree with you in thinking Tenn would have looked at it your way - they need a gameday force, not a program builder. But would think Gary would land a P5, esp in a year like this one.
And nj . COM will have a 17 part series on how SCHIANO KNEW THAT PATERNO KNEW.Then Hobbs should call him right now and bring him home.![]()
It's not hard to understand anywhere but here. First, all their beat writers have been pushing the Gruden possibility. Even today people were saying 10 million a year. Nobody outside of Rutgers is impressed with his overall performance here. Yes, he built the program but that was the ceiling. Tennessee doesn't need a program built, their roster is stacked with 4 and 5 stars. He hasn't exactly crushed it at OSU when playing equally talented teams. Can someone explain to me the insanity coming out of Knoxville? Did they hire Hitler or something? College football is truly bizarre.
Might be a smart move by Greg .Looks like Schiano may be backing out of the deal
He didn't build a program from nothing for them. All they see is his record both in college, and in the NFL and then as the DC at powerhouse Ohio State where our current head coach did a better job as DC than Schiano did.Can someone explain to me the insanity coming out of Knoxville? Did they hire Hitler or something? College football is truly bizarre.
He may not have a ton of options at the moment, if he wants to be a head coach. I would guess he absolutely does not have a better option, from a pay scale, program and conference standpoint. If I were Greg, I’d tell TN to stuff it.
Sure but how does this look on paper?
Head coach for 11 years:
Never won a conference title
Never finished better than 3rd in recruiting in conference.
Never went to a BCS game
Never won a major bowl
Had a below 500 conference record
Repeatedly given up 30 plus points as DC at a school stocked with 5 star talent
Lost to Burch Jones 36--10 in year 10?
Yeah well, they're using the PSU thing as THE excuse to bash out. Like this asshat. Was Schiano found guilty of something? The backlash to Greg has nothing to do with Sandusky and all to do with Tennessee fans wanting a "higher profile" hire. It's all nonsense.
I'm not so sure. Just look at our own fan-base and how many of us continue to associate anything PSU-related to Sandusky, no matter how tenuous the link. The backlash to Greg has nothing to do with Sandusky and all to do with Tennessee fans wanting a "higher profile" hire. It's all nonsense.
Sarcasm? Because all he cited were facts. And we're in big trouble when the citation of facts about football coaching makes one a hater.Hater
If I were Schiano, I'd insist on a pretty long contract and a big *** buyout. Won't be an easy job.Seemed like a bad fit culturally even before I read the backlash. The honeymoon will be very short if at all if he and the AD decide to move forward. He is 50/50 at best to be there for more than 3 years. Not sure what the Vol fans are smoking if they truly thought Gruden was coming their way.
Drunk Vol Fan writes pretty well, if somewhat judgmentally, for a drunk. LOLHere are some of the tweets: I won't posts the nasty ones:
I'm right here. Shocked. Absolutely shocked.
I'll get my sarcasm meter checked. I thought it was, but wasn't sure. I should probably take down my avatar for a day as penance. LOLSarcasm
And you know this for sure how?Tenn fans seem to think Schiano was involved with the PSU child abuse scandal. But he was not.
