Schiano got "stain", to use an old word I heard years ago by some yoots.

And that's EXACTLY what we need. It's central to recruiting top players. Newer coaches don't have it yet. You earn it over many years.

Interesting thought I keep coming back to with the wait; could a head coach named weeks before the season ends recruit effectively at RU without being able to announce a staff?

You may still get a recruit here or there but given the shape of the program and RU's penchant for doing things on the cheap I'd expect many recruits would want to see who is hired first.

This is not Schiano drama. This Rutgers doing what it always does. Doesn't want to pay to play. Schiano wants what he knows it will take to rebuild and be competitive. It's simple. It takes money to hire good staff. It takes money to build a real training facility. If we hire anyone else, they will settle for far less, and they will never get it done. The bubble is a joke. You can't recruit to it when the kids compare it to the training facilities at all the other B1G schools Schiano doesn't need the money. If he comes back he wants to win to feed his ego, which is a good thing.

As I've stated in other threads on the pay side, the only public demands about facilities (field house, Hale Center) that Schiano has made are what is already in the master plan the school released last year. It's what we don't know about that is probably holding things up.

Additionally if the field house will be football only then the price tag probably won't hit $100m. Illinios opened one recently that was in the $70-80m range and they are as corrupt as NJ. Northwestern's price tag I believe was due to it including multiple other sports using the facility.

I can't think of a coach off the top of my head that was hired in the regular season...and if it has happened it's very rare. Usually it's just after the season and before the bowl games and sometimes beyond even if a coach is fired in season.

The reason to fire a coach in season usually is so the AD can do all his back channel searching/talks without having a sitting coaching.....it's not the way to do business plus how many other coaches would actually respond back with a sitting coach in place. IMO, it's so the AD can perform his search unencumbered by a sitting coach.

Morris/Taggart were fired in season but I wouldn't expect those schools to name a coach until just after the season. IIRC Paul Rhoads was fired a week before the last game and Campbell was announced a day or so after the regular season...but most likely they were targeting him and had the talks in that week and finished it off quickly.
The process has changed dramatically since the inception of the early signing period in December. You can't compare now to historic scenarios. If you want to get recruits in December you have to fire in season and get a coach in place by December 1. Early signing period changed the game on the timing of firing coaches.

I can understand that but still hasn’t happened yet where a coach was hired in the regular season.... on top of which no coach is Superman....he still needs a staff to go out and recruit and unless he hires a bunch of unemployed coaches ( not likely ) he can’t have significant impact without a staff to go out on the road.

We need GS in place before bowl season so he can start getting a staff together.. watch the games of his candidates, etc. And if its not him maybe get a young guy who comes with a staff... a lower level head coach with a young hungry staff.

Quits on Rutgers, gets fired by Tampa, isn’t retained by new OSU headcoach, gets offer from Tennessee and has it resinded after fans revolt, join Patriots staff and abruptly quits. Yeah that is what I call STAIN
