Heard through the grapevine today that greg is not happy about the crowd limit for the spring game. And his staff is certainly in Holloway’s ears about it. Will it make a difference? Stay tuned,

Also heard the coaching staff is planing for regular summer HS camps on campus this summer though they’ve not yet been given the OK from Holloway to hold them.

G.S. And Murphy got to put pressure on Holloway who has no idea what Jersey is all about.

Not that I’m doubting you but if any of this is true it’s not good for Rutgers on a few levels.

This can't possibly be true. I just read through the other spring thread and guys like fsg2 and plum st said it's only a spring game and doesn't matter. Also tell Schiano to speak with ru#'s, he will explain all of the science behind this decision.

The severe limitation in crowd size by
Holloway can very well be indicating his intentions for the fall season

Greg must make his disapproval known now with the spring game decision to
begin any battle for later on

meanwhile we have the athletic department selling level 200 seats with a guaranteed entrance to the games in the fall.

This might go against the intentions
Of the university president if the sales of those seats are huge, and at the same time thousands of regular ticket holders have re- upped their ticket purchases for-the season
The regular ticket holders cannot be kept out when possibly thousands of new discounted ticket holders, many with little or no priority, are let in

Right . When September rolls around no one will be talking about the spring game . Kinda like all those people that were concerned about going to a soccer game a few weeks ago. Remember ?

now not holding camps is a bigger deal. That is the thing to get upset about . Holloway better let greg hold camps . Those camps are very important for many reasons

Fall attendance will be set at the 10-15k range, unless Schiano can somehow convince our President of the error of his ways.

At the very least, get it up to 10,000 with at least 1,000 set aside for high school players and coaches.— Should be 16,000, but I will be stunned if he backtracks that far.
10,000 would be fine imo. I'm thinking a Thu night will not be as popular as Sat aft's have been in the past.

It’s more of the limiting to season ticket holders he doesn’t like.
I doubt that anyone wanting to go to the Spring game will be turned away. If it was a Saturday afternoon than that is a different story. Besides it's irrelevant about being a season ticket holder for the Spring game.

we will see. I know Schiano has always viewed the Spring Game as a marketing opportunity. To sell the team. Etc. doing it solely in front of people who’ve already bought in (ST holders) kinda ruins that opportunity.

who knows if what I was told yesterday is true. Just thought I’d pass along.

I think 5000 is enough since the game is on a Thursday night.
the point is that if we are getting severe crowd restrictions for the spring game, we very well might have the same for the regular season

we should at least be on par with what other programs are doing....

if we don't make a bit of noise now, the Pres might not understand how his possible fall restrictions will be
received by the fan base

Yes, everyone should buy tickets to show that we all want to go.

For the people in the back...

NJ is at 30 % outdoor venue capacity

After an 18 month layoff, bringing back GS, with good weather and the game being broadcast on BTN, coming off essentially a year long lockdown, optimism higher then it’s been in years and vaccines being administered at a solid pace...

To cap it at 5k, in light of all of this, with a snippet saying it’s based on University guidance, with the ridiculous limits set for baseball / lax / etc and with premature & preemptive hints (and outright claims) about indoor masking 7 months out, it’s this type of behavior which has people agitated, frustrated and overall fed up

We’ve masked
We’ve social distanced
We’ve been shut down
We’ve been vaccinated
We’ve complied with rules & regulations

Based on all of this, having 5k at the spring game is a joke. It’s embarrassing, uncalled for, and moreover, unacceptable.

Here’s hoping GS gets in the ear of the powers that be and straightens this out ASAP

I get your point and total understand. Let me play devil’s advocate. The reason we are having the spring game now is because the team had a Covid outbreak. NJ is one of the 4 states that had one of the highest infection rates in the country. I hope there will be a compromise now that the infection rate is going down and there is overwhelming demand.

The main issue stems from the goal posts continually getting moved back.

If we’re truly following the science, which I’m assuming the state is doing, then why are we defying the state and making our own arbitrary number under the guise of university guidance?

The leadership here is continually tone deaf, and doesn’t learn from their mistakes.

From nearly botching the Schiano deal, to being the lone school in the conference advocating for no attendance last year, to now limiting attendance to less than 1/3 of the state guidelines with all I’ve posted above having transpired in the past 14 months, they simply don’t get it.

Is 5k at the spring game a death warrant? Of course not. But nothing gets done without passion and the ability to not take it anymore. Fans flipped out, GS deal gets done.

Fans take this instance lying down, who’s to say what happens on 9/4 and next year. That’s my point - enough is enough already.

This administration and school needs to get in the real world if we ever hope to contend. If we’re happy being mediocre, than that’s fine. But don’t talk to me about championships and legacies when we’re continually acting little league in a room full of sharks

The hospitalization number should be the operative here:It's down by 25 per cent in 2 weeks. If the current trend continues,by Labor Day the hospitals will encourage that people go there for a rest as they did in the 50's.

I bet Schiano said this at the subway on Easton Ave.

It's where all the Real Housewives of the Knight Report get the good guff on who is angry at who.

All before Greg overturned the table at Holloway, and yelled "but UFC and clubs in Miami are at full capacity!!!" and read anti-mask Twitter posts from Clay Travis.

Let’s be clear. This has nothing to do with championships or legacies. How many season tickets are sold for the upcoming season will. Let’s see if all the fans will show up.

Id venture to say more people would show up buy tickets if university leadership would stop giving mixed messages

We’re not building all these new facilities to be mediocre, we’re doing it to be elite & compete w/UM, OSU & PSU

If that’s not the goal, let’s de-emphasize athletics and move back down to the AAC or Patriot League

If it is the goal, let’s start acting like a big time university who plays big time sports with big time athletes in a big time conference

Spring game restrictions has nothing to do with long term athletic department goals and milestones . Winning games in the fall does . Winning isn’t everything ....it’s the only thing

I think we strive to be elite level but the reality is we are not close in terms of fan support and $. What was our largest crowd for a spring game? There are passionate group of fans but that’s still not a big enough group to have any influence.

It’s a mindset man
We have and have always had a small time outlook on things

Successful athletic depts have universities that buy in from the top down, presidents to alumni to students

This decision is, at best, preemptive and shortsighted

At worst it’s a sign of things to come in the fall- judging by our history of miscues and lack of commitment, I’m not optimistic hel do a 180 come September if he’s pulling this stunt now

True but this and other actions aren’t helping matters. 20 k I believe was our biggest crowd

But how about thinking big picture and marketing this properly? Offer free attendance to all season ticket holders in an effort to get more tickets sold and generate excitement

Assume we have 18k season Tix sold now. If 25 % can’t go that’s 13,500, maybe we sell 500-1000 more w this offer

Still keeps us under the 16,500 threshold of 30 %, generates $$ and good will and completely changes the narrative

Not a chance. That's less than the number of season ticket holders that pay full price with seat fees and donations. The season tickets that RU is selling for $150 says that purchasing them will guarantee you a seat in the stadium for all home games. Those people are not getting in before full price season ticket holders
My original prediction was season ticket holders + students only....so somewhere between 18,000-20,000. That number is less than 50% and about what Holloway, from under his bed, will be comfortable with.

You guys are the whiniest bitches of all time.

The spring game is boring, don't @ me. If there are nonsensical restrictions in September (when things will look much, much different) then get mad. You people bitching and moaning over hypotheticals are insufferable.

Again it’s the principle, along with piss poor decisions in the past, being tone deaf of the current situation and continuing to move the goalposts

Riddle me this - why would he be commenting on winter sports 7 months ahead of time? What good does it do?

People have been locked down yet compliant for the past year, and they’re sick of it.

State is at 30 %, we’re at 1/4 of that. Let that sink in for a minute - spring game or not, that’s not normal.

And along w his previous comments re winter sports and barring a complete 180, this doesn’t bode well for the fall / winter sports.

Anyone not seeing the indirect yet obvious coorelation here is, to quote Andy Dufrane, being obtuse

There have been more posts on this **** than there are in a game thread. I think limiting it to 5,000 is stupid honestly but the majority of people endlessly bitching about this only care because it gives them another excuse to complain about literally any COVID related restriction.

I love the dramatic effect but nah. Those puppies get up to 7-8 pages, combine all the threads on this and you're maybe at 3. Also yes under Ash playing two hand touch the Spring Game was boring but my season ticket group always loved going. Just because you don't like or never have been to the Spring Game doesn't mean you talk for the majority.

Hell during Greg's last go around we were drawing in the 20K range when he had things humming. I remember it being a great source of pride around these parts as we would out draw everyone in the conference. Even when Ash was dragging us to the gates of hell we were drawing almost 10K.

Nah. Some of us are concerned we're not going to get in the door for the Spring Game due to an arbitrary decision made by the University unaligned with State Guidelines. After a year and a half of not being able to attend any football, and with Schiano coming back generating hope and excitement, this random decision to further restrict capacity and initiate a Lottery is frustrating.

Rutgers needs to do better here.
