Looking at the schedule, we have only 1 game/ week for the next 5 weeks. Every Saturday.

I know the schedule typically lightens up for the holidays, but this seems particularly sparse this year.

Helps us or hurts us?

It's not just us. The entire conference only plays four games between Friday and January 1. Duke plays tonight and then has only three games between Friday and January 4.

I'd like to hear Pike's perspective on this, but from a basketball perspective (as well as the academic and family issues mentioned above) I have to believe he's loving it. He now has tape of us playing two of the best teams in the country to breakdown and analyze. The young players have already had a baptism of fire and now get a chance to breathe and catch up. There is plenty of time to do prep for upcoming games. In the post game radio interview after Wisconsin, Pike said something like we now have time to "put in" some new stuff. The staff will use the time well!

I know it's not all hoops all the time but I tend to watch anything whether its college football bowls, some college hoops and the NFL or NBA if it's a slow night. Not having 2 to 3 games a week for RU is fine.

I have to believe this is the perfect 4 week stretch to prep for league play. Practice, film/corrections/install some new things, rest, game, repeat. Pike has to love it.

I think it's also good that we only really have 4 home games during the winter break (5 if you count Northwestern on the Friday night before classes begin on Monday) while students won't be on campus, and two are against Columbia and Maine.

Players love games. Coaches love practices. With a young team this stretch of extra practice time should benefit us more than other teams.

Also hope it gives the guys a chance to work on their shots. More practice time and some easier opponents after the early stretch will hopefully be a perfect time for Harper to break out of his 3 point slump. Mathis might have a break out game offensively (his D has already gotten much better) as the athleticism gap between him and players on teams like Maine and Columbia will be huge

I expect the team to look even better heading into 2019 and I cannot wait

Classes don't begin until Tuesday after MLK. So I think it's 5 with northwestern and even technically 6 as there's a game on MLK day but students will be back.

It also enables Pike to play key guys alot of minutes IF NECESSARY TO ENSURE A WIN. We need to win games, and if that means playing Geo 38 minutes against Fordham, so be it. He'll have a week to recuperate before the SHU game. And so on.

I hope that won't be necessary in the Fordham game, but it certainly could be a factor in the SHU game.

they used to load the games up in December back in the day..remember the season used to start like after Thanksiving..now its starting almost 20 days before.

I criticized last years schedule where the team picked up bad habits by planting themselves at the RAC in November and December. Its odd that just one home game though from Nov 23 to Dec 21 and that was MSU
