Schadarac is a great free throw shooter and handles the ball well.

I never bought into the fact that Baker would be the full time point guard. Also, is there any opportunity for McConnell to RS?

Just curious. I know his shooting will be needed.

Good point Hig... if this kid plays next year McConnell could RS to balance classes....it would be interesting how this plays out

No way McConnell redshirts. All 3 would play and Baker could get off the ball more. If he has PG skills then bring in Schadrac. He even has RAC in his name.

Possibly. I am not saying he should be redshirted, just seeing what people thought. I know he is light. It definitely will be interesting. Lots of new players with different skill-sets and versatility.

I think his shooting will be needed. His release is a bit slow and not super high, but if he gets open, he can hit a shot. Baker will probably handle 50% of the primary ball handler/distributor role.

He would come if Hyatt picks another program (which i guess what we should be expecting?)

Don't think we're going to see Hyatt here. Which is fine. Better for the program to bring in Schadrac this year and someone like a Massoud next year.

If we get another PG then I think we should redshirt McConnell. Then Caleb could fight it out with Jacob Young and Mulcahy for PG minutes, as well as get minutes for shooting guard and wing ( he has the height and if he added some bulk he could be a good wing imo); don't think there would be enough minutes for him if we got a grad transfer PG this year

Can we get the kid on campus and figure out if he's better than McConnell before talking redshirts??? (which isn't going to happen).....McConnell is capable of playing the 1, 2 and 3 at 6'6".....and can shoot the ball as well as Harper...

Hyatt may be sticking with 2019, may reclassify to 2018, but he hasn't made any decision....On surface, the stats seem OK from FT line and he can help Geo some by handling the rock.....this is a situation where you are fine either way....if you get him great.....if you don't, it's not life or death.

We really lack PG depth this year - this additon would put us in a good place depth wise at the spot. No reason to redshirt anyone.

Also, re: RutHut...I think you mean Shadrac to Shaq to Shaq to Shadrac for 3!

I am actually very excited to see what McConnell can do, I wrote don't sleep on this kid a few weeks back. I just think that if you add a grad transfer that would make 12 legit players and rotations usually only go 10 or 11.. so why not either McConnell or Harper to redshirt?

Much rather have one of those guys in 2022, than have one of them play sparingly this year

I am also very excited to have him on the banks.

I just read a little about redshirting. I could see why a coach would not jump to redshirt a player. It gives them the option to potentially leave after year 3. It would really be up to where the coach thinks the kid is from a physical standpoint, and what the student wants. It seems like what could first be beneficial for roster balance could eventually hurt it down the line.

I’d guess there are not too many 5’10” guards in the Big Ten.

There are a lot of 6'0 or 6'1 fast PG's in the Big 10. This fills a need.

I hope you are not going to bring up that misconception that the Big 10 is all about tall PG's, because that's just not true. Most are 6'0 to 6'2.

5'10 on the website means he's probably really 5'8-5'9. Doesn't mean he isnt a take but thats pretty small. Seems like a much needed threat from outside though

what do we know about Iona?

no defense

Is a Eddie Jordan clone their coach?

Maybe if they had Jay Young and Pikiell they would play defense...:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I'm sure you remember the difference in 1 year of Pikiell and Jay Young. Individuals Players can play D when the right coach coaches defense.

So people have talked about red shirting McConnell, Harper--did I miss anybody? Geo will be fine at PG. He played it quite a bit last year, and this year, it will be his team. Not sure why so many people are having trouble wrapping their heads around that. What's not to like? His confidence, the infectious enthusiasm, the way he got people involved, his shooting from 2 and 3--and he was a freshman. What would it take to satisfy you guys? Stevie Francis reincarnated walking onto the practice floor?

If a Steve Francis clone walked onto the practice floor, there would probably be people talking about redshirting him and others thinking that he is “too small” for the B1G.

That’s the point. Geo is the best player on the team and it will benefit him to get off ball looks.

I'm glad the staff is still seaching for a point guard for this year.

I think a PG for the upcoming season is one of the keys to building on the momentum from our last three games and the solid recruiting class the staff has assembled.

Perception is important, and although the future is looking much brighter, Baker is not a true PG. Without a serviceable backup, there is a huge risk of losing momentum record-wise.

Why do people believe Casimir is a PG...he isn't a PG by definition, he's an undersized scoring guard....while he can also handle the ball and allow Geo freedom off the ball, he's more scorer than PG....he's just a guard, there's no PG feel to his game.

Can Casimir be a 3 point threat, potentially manuever through a defense to bring the ball up?? Yes, but that's about it....if he picks RU, it would free up 20 minutes a game for Geo off the ball and probably give McConnell more of a role as 2nd PG/2nd SG/ 3rd SG in a 3 guard lineup...i think we'll see a lot of 3 guard lineups and better spacing as well.

You’re right. I saw 5’10” and assumed....lol. If he can score AND handle the ball...and we don’t think we can do better....I still like him. We sure do need shooters.

If he can play some minutes handling the ball to keep Geo fresh (so he's not playing 32 min/game) that would be a major benefit. His D1 experience should help knowing we have Mathis and McConnell as frosh guards.

^^^This, I do not know anything about this player and what his skill set is, but if Geo is asked to do too much it will drain him. I like Caleb McConnell's game a lot but he is still an unproven freshman.

I am not sure if this kid wants to come to Rutgers or what other options we have, I am just worried that Geo will be asked to do too much and it will affect his scoring ability. He is the most proven scorer we have.
