I have a completely irrational fear of sharks...probably due to the mental scarring I have received from watching Jaws as a kid. As a kid, I could not even be in a swimming pool by myself for fear of a shark.

Not long ago, I saw a "shark expert" give an interview and talk about the best way to deal with a shark, if confronted. He said treat it like an angry dog...turn and face it directly. Do not panic and flail around and try to escape. Finally, slowly back away and head for shallow water. And if a shark attacks, go for its eyes and gills, they are its most sensitive areas.

Now, that sounds all good to me, while I'm sitting on my couch in my living room. But I'm not sure I could pull that off if ever confronted by one of those guys while swimming.

That's some real Jaws stuff right there. I think if I'm ever confronted by a shark I'll be too busy crapping my pants to do much of anything else.
