Not sure if this was posted, if so please disregard. Interesting that the national folks are starting to pile on.

Journalists borrow a term from baseball to describe a story that contains no information not already known, takes no effort and reflects no wit or intelligence.

They call such a story a “Nothingball.”

What’s new about Pope’s lame effort to defend the past two years not flying with Kentucky fans? Or that he needs to pull a rich haul out of the portal to convince fans he’s not over his head?

The article’s not wrong. It’s just a nothingball.

Fans have been patient… enough. This isn’t the pre-portal era where you needed 3-4 years to get your guys in place. You have a new team every year now and every year will be different. CMP has to prove he can be consistent and offer UK high quality results that are expected from a team of our pedigree.

CMP has to show fans he’s the right man for the job next season.

Dusty May absolutely destroyed Pope’s pathetic two year progress plea. Coaching seat doesn’t get any hotter than going in to Year 3 with minimal continuity and mediocre results.
Dusty May wins it in basketball and Cig wins it in football. Both in year 2. Yet, Pope is taking about how great it is he won 3 games in 2 years in the SEC tournament (without even making the weekend). Sad state!

I don’t even know anymore. Lots of fans and even opposing fans and media tells us that no one wanted the job and all we could get was Pope. Is that true or another one of our AD’s lazy hires?

Who do we even hire? UNC didn’t do a great job with hiring a new coach and you have to wonder if we’re not in the same position. Do we have to go take a chance on a Lucas or Shertz and hope they work out?

Shertz is a winner. I’m not sure I even like the guy. But I don’t think he’s that big of a risk basketball wise. He’d win big here.

Pope is not qualified to coach ky basketball but he was qualified to be a player for Rick Pitino. Those two scenarios are very different just because you were successful as a player doesn't equate to being successful at. coaching ky basketball. , I wish Rick Pitino could bring himself to tell Pope this but I know he won't.

Shertz is from Brooklyn, does he have a similar bombastic attitude as Pitino? I could see fans being pretty happy about that if he does.

I dont know anything about Hawthorne but Im sure hes nothing special
You know nothing about him but that does not stop you from making an ignorant remark about this young man. It is obvious you do not care for CMP but there is no need to do this! You should be ashamed and I have no reason to entertain your comments since they have no basis. Ignore!

"Circling the wagons" is a DEFENSIVE strategy, Drew Holbrook.

What you meant was circling sharks.

Pope did not have the qualifications to be the Kentucky Coach, MITCH BARNHART is the sole reason we are in this Position save the HATE for our POS Athletic Director he deserves every bit of it!!!!!
In all seriousness, Pope had less on his resume than Billy Gillispie when he got hired. Mind you, he’s a much classier human being than Billy, but the on court results are only marginally better so far.

The next hire needs to be a Cal-level hire. Not a Gillispie-level hire.

College basketball is unrecognizable from what it once was. I’ll still watch games and keep up with news, but my fandom is less than half compared to the past. Sad state of affairs.
I feel the exact same. I didn’t even watch most games this year. I’d check the score in the second half and if they weren’t getting embarrassed, I’d tune in.

Rick Pitino was singing Pope’s praises when he was hired. RP made a video where he declared Pope would win big here and said Kentucky fans will love him. Personally I hope Pope turns it around next year. His first year was better than expected while last year was disappointing. I’m hoping he wins big here.

This is where I've become... I never thought in the life of me that it would ever come to me missing a minute of UK sports but thanks to Mitch (mostly), Stoops last few years , Kyra Elzy couple of years , Cal's last 5-6 years , and Popes first couple. It's just horrible really.

If he had the talent, he would have played this year.
