Yeah, its pretty shocking to see a big5 team be so bad.

Its how others in the Big12 have survived- recruit in the deep conference state of Texas in addition to elsewhere.

I couldn’t believe Les Miles took that job. He must have truly not had any suitors at all, because he had to know that would be his last HC job. It’s career suicide.
I never thought Miles was a particularly good coach, either, though. You know, both of our programs have probably benefited a significant amount from them being bad at hiring HC’s. We saw what Saban was building there before he went to the NFL. Then they’ve hired 2 idiots since then. I get that Alabama is a monster program, but I don’t know that LSU isn’t a better job. You don’t even have to try hard to sign Top 10 classes. Your state is full of elite talent and you’re the only show in town, so to speak. You can wake up every day and put on an LSU pullover and go sign 13+ 4-stars.
Even crazier when you consider they won 7 conference games in 2007 alone. In the span of three years they went from going 12-1 and winning and Orange Bowl to just an outrageously bad program.
Incredible to think that fat bastard (no offense mods) took those guys to a top5 ranking in the last 15 years. I had a close childhood friend play for him. Said he was a hard core no-nonsense guy. Strict disciplinarian.
Miles was no idiot on the football field. He won a national title with Saban's players, then built back up and theoretically won another in 2011. Before someone argues with me, they played an schedule with Oregon and West Virginia, beat Bama at home and won the SEC in the toughest SEC West ever (2 other top 5 teams at the time). The fact that they got stuck with a rematch is appalling. At the very least, it shows Miles knows how to put together a team.

Please. There's no comparison between the LSU job and the Alabama job. Les Miles coached 2 of the best 4 seasons in LSU history (2007 & 2011); only he, Saban, Dietzel & Bernie Moore have won 2 SEC titles there; and he's 2nd in all-time winning percentage at LSU. The man was a damn good coach in his day. By the time it ended at LSU though, the game was passing him by.
I hate you and everything you stand for, but I kind of agree with you. I think LSU could be a better gig. You will mop-up the talent in one of the best states for HS athletes. You are able to cherry-pick kids from MS, another state with good talent. You will get kids from Texas and Arkansas. You can recruit nationally. When hot, you have the most swag of any program and it's not even close. When hot, there isn't a more intimidating place to play at. And you hire Ed 17ing Orgeron. Man, oh, man.

Here's a list of each of the season overall records for Kansas between 2010-2020: 3-9, 2-10, 1-11, 3-9, 3-9, 0-12, 2-10, 1-11, 3-9, 3-9 and 0-9. Twenty-one wins and one hundred eight losses in the last 11 seasons.
On a positive note, Kansas football does have a couple of notable alumni in the NFL Hall of Fame: Gale Sayers and John Riggins.

I just don’t think he was a good coach. They were loaded with talent and he did it before the game was changing, really. At least wide scale changes. He couldn’t adapt, which is what elite coaches do (see Saban hiring Kiffin, etc.). You never watched LSU and felt like they were winning because of coaching.. they just dominated the trenches and out-talented teams.
Which is my point - the job recruits for itself. It’s insane the players LSU puts in the NFL compared to their actual results on the field. Dan Mullen or Hugh Freeze either one would’ve won multiple national championships there, I think. Miles was fine, but he’s a Top 40-50 coach who was in a Top 5 job.
Well, we post out of love at Ole Miss, man. Not hatred of somebody else, but love of that poster beside us.

We won 16 conference games in 15 years from 1958 to 1972. Makes me mad every 17n time I think about it. It's what ******, short sighted administrations will do for you.
Maybe. But it’s a big jump from the MAC to the Big 12, even a much weekend Big 12. He was great at Wisconsin-Whitewater in Div III and he brought Buffalo back from the dead. But the schedules were atrocious. Only game vs a ranked opponent, he lost 45-13. Definitely a good hire considering their position though. Good upside and even the downside should be an improvement.

LSU has no reason not to be a perennial powerhouse like Bama. They have zero in-state competition for talent. At least Alabama has to contend with Auburn.. If they ever hire a good coach, stop molesting women and stealing money from kids with *** cancer then they will be near untouchable.
