Martinez was under the weather and the team had a bad week of practice. Are you not paying attention?
All joking aside, it was 1 freaking game. Time to move on.
if bruce was in there at qb, 100-0

The same thing in a much more brutal fashion if Frost does not adjust like he should have Saturday. If South Alabama can take things away, what will the Big 10 do?
Hopefully someone takes away your computer. At least until we beat sCUm.If South Alabama can take things away, what will the Big 10 do?
Just repeating what Frost said. Are you calling him a liar?
I don't disagree with you. I'm just repeating what Frost said. As I said, I suspect it had something to do with a late arriving JUCO RB who isn't up to full speed in the offense yet. I also think it's why we saw more of Mazour and may see that continue. Don't know for sure. We'll find out. I'm comfortable with Mazour out there and I suspect Adrian is too. There is a big difference between doing some things unexpected that we didn't prepare for and an all out totally different looking D. I don't know enough about what USA normally does but replaying I didn't see any earth shattering D being played. Not like they were blitzing on every down, bring corners and dropping ends all the time.
Be honest, we should be able to adjust to what USA is doing to us with their level of athletes and our athletes and coaches. Regardless of what was or was not planned for..

Really. Frost said that his unfamiliarity with the offense led him to miss opportunities for more yardage in the run game in his press conference on Monday.Mills has been in Lincoln since June. He knows all the plays. Mo Washington showed up two weeks before the opening game and knew most of them.
LOL, you crack me up man. I know several Husker fans like you. Are you mad because you bought into the hype and it may not come to fruition? I'm personally reserving judgement until Sunday.***** number 8.
They aren't horrible. That narrative is based off of last year's record. They aren't great, but they were a lot better than what I expected them to be after all we've heard. It was South Alabama. They are a horrible horrible football team.
How was practice today?
Not sure they didn't have every play at their disposal . I do think the game plan was to keep things more basic. Not get to fancy and just get the W. Not so much as to hide things from CU. But more so to get a step ahead in game planning for CU. It is not uncommon for coaches, staff and players to "skip over" an opponent and start planning for the next week.Well, that is an excuse but not a good one. So what you are saying is Frost purposely limited the O even though everything he has ever done is out there on film to see. He even limited it with a team like USA who has never had a winning record as a D 1 school in 7 years. He purposely put his team in peril of losing by not opening up the O? He purposely didn't allow his players to use a larger share of the play book in hopes he could save it all for CU and never really work on it aside from practice? Frost obviously knew he had to keep plays in his pocket and risk not showing and allowing USA to stay close to his Huskers? So since we couldn't execute the basic (vanilla which I predicted a week before the game would be used as an excuse) O, then we really should have opened up the playbook? Did I miss anything beside Frost is now be questioned as a play caller.
I started to go back and watch the game, got through the first series watching and stopping each play 4-10 times to see what everyone was doing. The line play was horrendous, seemed to always be someone making a bad play that disrupted things. This team needs to be some fundamentals down before they take on anything else. I suppose opening up the playbook makes the linemen block better? Oh, that's right, its misdirection and they don't have to block. Got it

Im wondering if this could be the case here they expected an easy win and spent last week more focusing on plays to run against CUs weaknesses vs USA weaknesses.
Pretty clear that Martinez's play was a far cry from what we saw during the back half of last season. Maybe he was sick, maybe he wasn't, we would know by now if Adrian or the staff were going to tell us.Martinez was under the weather and the team had a bad week of practice. Really? Granted it is high school that I was speaking of, but assumed in happens at college level as well. Not to saying they literally skip over, but more don't spend as much time game planning, and film watching to pick apart weaknesses. For example during prep week for a game like Michigan all weak. Sat night- Sat morning is preparing for Michigan. For teams lesser team like USA. Sat night- Wed is preparing for USA then Wed start looking a bit into CU, just to get that few extra days in. Not sure if that is what happened here, just my opinion. Yes you are right, that is how upsets happen. Today no teams should be taken for granted.I have never talked to or heard of a coach “skip over” an opponent. That’s how you get beat. You can only work on one opponent at a time without losing focus and creating confusion. Provide an example of this skip over.

One game, yes, but one that we hope isn't a harbinger of things to come. I think the combination of first game, Cam's snapping, Adrian's play generally, first half sans MoWash, a crafty defensive game prep by USA (with a lack of adjustment by the players and staff), and a second half that played out weird produced the unsatisfying game that we watched.
It was just South Bama, but I think we should be enthused by the play of the D. There were some timely individual plays that snuffed USA drives in addition to the turnovers. NU found out that Eric Lee can get some things done and that Cam Taylor is a veritable swiss army knife in defensive backfield.

Is Frank Solich still coaching? I thought we abandoned the "they were holding back, not showing too much" excuse for poor performance years ago.
That will never go away. I'm just glad that we don't still have "road shell" any more. Didn't you trademark that term back in 2002?
Of course, but less doesn’t prepare you for the rest that you didn’t have film of.As a coach I would rather break down film that has less on it than more on it.
I'd agree with your assessment on the o-line play. Terrible
In re- watching the game the plays called for Mills were all between tackles. Why ? only wide runs were with Robinson. Even those runs in which Washington was called upon started into the line, he just bounced outside.
I think the game plan is to score the most pointsi'm kind of surprised no one is talking about the type of plays called on Saturday.
I was at the game, in my opinion the offense was very vanilla, on purpose.
It appeared to me and those in the stands around me that we were not showing our cards , so to speak, on Saturday.
For example most run plays were between the tackles. Only one screen was called that I remember. Yes, we ran a jet sweep or two, but this was not the whole offense
My hope is that is what was hindering the offense , if not I am concerned .
Of course, but less doesn’t prepare you for the rest that you didn’t have film of.
