Sarr to UK

Perused the Wake basketball boards for a moment. They were right in the middle of a nice job of making fun of UK, making fun of Kentuckians, making fun of SEC schools, making fun of fat people......then suddenly someone posts "Transferring to UK - per ESPN", and everything changed on a dime. "I literally hate UK basketball and everything it stands for" was next. heh. Quite an amusing 15 minutes. I did like this post, though:

If the waiver is granted, Sarr will be a big part of KY's team next year. Except for Vernon Carey, Sarr was the best big in the ACC last year. He is 7 feet, athletic and has good offensive skills. He is exactly what Kentucky needed.

I just don't trust the NCAA to do the right thing.
Me either....but Cal isn’t a big gambler and although we got burned with Kanter I have to believe we wouldn’t take this commitment unless we internally had a lot of confidence in the waiver being approved. As other posters have pointed out Cal helped a lot with Green’s and Baker’s waivers so I think he understands the process very well.

Too bad Henry gave up and won't be joining the fun next year. We gotta chance!

@HenryMuto

Kentucky will never win another Championship under Calipari.

I am sorry but you can't just lose every single player year after year that matters from the previous season and expect to ever win another National title.

Needed to win it in 2014 when you were favored in the title game vs UCONN
and needed to win in 2015 when you started 38-0.

I say it every year Kentucky is always short 1 player from winning a title.

That was not the case in 2010, 2012 or 2015 but has been every other year (except 2013 when we were like 5 players short and 2016 at least 2 players short)

2014 RTS Fantasy Championship National Champion $200,000 (2460 teams)
2012 NFFC Online National Champion $100,000 (1872 teams)
2015 RTS 2nd Place Overall $25,000 (3120 teams)

Kentucky Wildcats National Champions 2012 1998 1996 1978 1958 1951 1949 1948
The Ohio State Buckeyes National Champions 2014 2002 1970 1968 1961 1957 1954 1942

I've never watched a second of Wake b-ball....but is the opinion that Sarr is better than Nick was last year...on equal footing with Nick or less of a player than Nick.

If we can sort of get the same kind of player as Nick, then I think we are a better team in 2020 than we were in 2019 season.

Clarke/Boston is similar to Maxey/Quickley. Askew vs. Hagans will be the big question.

One also has to feel good about Brooks/Fletcher being an upgrade over the routine cuckishness of Montgomery.

Let me be the first to say that I hope we play him regardless. The f*** are they going to do? Send Cal a letter? Heard anything more about what Memphis did with Wiseman? Exactly.

This was my first thought as well.

Play the kid and tell the NCAA to piss off. We learned our lesson with Kanter.

Hope not. Not to speak ill of any particular Cat, but relative to what we've seen from Calipari recruits over the last decade plus, Maxey and Quickley were underwhelming. Just looking at ranking numbers, I'd have hoped Clarke/Boston is similar to Fox/Monk. I'm not splitting hairs - to me, there's a huge difference between them......

More polished offensively, steadier rebounder, not the same presence or versatility defensively.

Well, before you get too confident, you might consider this:

ok as a .uk fan why do you continue to ignore that there are more reasons for optimism than "the coach got fired" he was going to enter the NBA draft Manning I'm sure with the AD knowing he was going to fire Manning and that Manning was going to convince the kid to stay. Waits til after the draft entry deadine to fire Manning. That is underhanded behavior that effected the kids well being financially. That is the reason for optimism not jus the firing of the coach.

U ignore this fact over and over. With the NCAA facing a ton of negative publicity over not looking out for players best interest as well as a huge investigation iinvolving the FBI . Why would they make a decision that sends a potential all American over seas instead of in college it would be a horrible decision for them just based on pubicity alone. Especially when they are going to be competing with the g-league for the best hs players. Denying this waiver makes sense only if he was going back to Wake which he isnt.

No, I'm not ignoring it. I've acknowledged the way in which he was misled at Wake as grounds that he can argue in several different posts.

Huh? This is one of the most illogical statements I've ever seen on this board. If he was going back to Wake then there would no need for a waiver ...much less a waiver request that could be denied ...because there would be no transfer.

Sounds like you don't really understand what the issue is.

Isn't Williams in the exact same boat as far as being at the mercy of the NCAA for a potential waiver?

Yes. Williams did have to sit out his freshman year at Evansville due to eligibility issues. He would burn a redshirt this year also unless granted a waiver. Honestly, I'd love for Calipari to recruit a couple guys willing to redshirt like Toppin.

We could get Williams and Anselem and I'd feel pretty good about our frontcourt for 21/22 already with the likelihood of Ware, Jackson, Toppin, Williams, and Anselem all returning. Then you get one top 10 freshman and you are good.

LOL. Wow ok! If denying the waiver meant he would go back to Wake to compete instead of going to pay pro in Europe as he has stated he was going to do because he has stated he will not sit out. So Wake would be his only option to play college ball next season. So if the NCAA denies his waiver they lose one of the top bigs and a potential All American to Europe. Denying his waiver has zero positives for the NCAA does that clear things up for u?

This morning on the Tom Leach show someone (Fisher maybe) was talking about Sarr and two other hopefuls, and he thought it would be a while before Sarr made a decision. So, I'm pretty shocked at this. Pleasantly surprised.

If Wake Forest advises the NCAA that they want Sarr to be allowed to play next season, does it then become likely that he will be allowed to play? Am I wrong, or was UK's request that Baker and Green be allowed to play immediately a determining factor?

i guess we will find out if their new coach is as good of a human being as Cal is

In terms of getting Wake Forest to support this, John Currie is the key, not the new coach. If Currie is on board, Forbes’ opinion isn’t that relevant.

If UK is being smart about this, then they should be working with Wake Forest directly right now to gain alignment. They need to do that BEFORE they submit the request to the NCAA.

North Carolinians making fun of Kentuckians....both Southern states containing the Appalachia’s...Pot meet kettle....smh.

same reason I hate when Kentucky fans call any other fan base rednecks, incest, etc. It’s the same nonsense we have hurled at us and is just ignorance. Almost all rural areas East of the Mississippi are made up of the exact same people, the only major difference being some come w accents.

Good post and points. But I don't agree that KY is a Southern state. I'm not from the South. I'm from E.Ky. The culture is nothing alike and there isn't a single aspect of culture from the South that I would like to be associated with. KY isn't Mid-western either. I think we're really our own thing.
