Wow. Released from the team per Twitters. Wonder what the deal there?

Here comes a whole bunch of "I'd like to thank Coach Freeze for the opportunity. I'll always be a Rebel at heart."

For the record, I think Epps is awesome. Might be a bad apple, but that dude can play.

He probably wasn't progressing as well as the coaching staff had hoped. Got in trouble. Used the opportunity to get him out and give scholarship to someone else.

It will be funny to see if they give him another chance after a year in JUCO?

You know what this means, right? .........................................................................................................................

It means that within a few days, there will be an incident involving one or more of our guys plastered on the front page of the CL.

It's funny how the article references all the player's rankings on scout and in the state. Ex. 4* #8 prospect in state. The #7 tight end in the nation, the #10 tight end in the nation. Don't panic Ole Miss fans, more star recruits to replace this guy. I never see them do that when they discuss our players. Let's ignore the negative at Ole Miss and highlight all the recruiting positives. Also seems like they want to make a situation look bleak as possible when state has a player kicked off. I'm probably paranoid, because bear control media does not exist.

I would love for that to be the case, but considering we have two walk-ons behind Engram at TE, I don't think that's the case. Granted, those walk-ons were both ahead of Epps on the depth chart coming out of Spring though, so you may have an argument there.

On the Juco thing, if the past tells us anything, Epps is likely done. When guys get booted and have to go to Juco, they usually don't make it back. Maybe he ends up playing a season at North Alabama or something some day, but my first guess would be that his playing days at the D-1 level are over.

Signed,

Cam Newton, Chad Kelly, Stringfellow (who actually got to skip JUCO, nice for him), Nick Marshall, Johnathan Taylor....I'm sure there are a few others.

Is this serious? What is "usually" based on, exactly?

I would argue that if he has a productive season along with staying out of trouble at worst he'll get offers from Sun-Belt or Conference USA schools.

Maybe this is the balance from spring break with Dak and De'Runnya.

What heinous crime did Epps commit that Hugh Freeze didn't want him on his team? Did he try to join up with ISIS?

Freeze has proven that if he thinks you can play football you will have a spot on his team regardless of behavior issues. So either he did something absolutely horrible, or Freeze decided he couldn't play and found an excuse to kick him to the curb.

Interesting ...

I did hear that one of the reasons why he signed with OM to begin with is that an alumnus promised his mom a new job in Oxford.

Any promising player getting kicked off UM's football team is like Steven Adler getting kicked out of Guns and Roses for doing too many drugs. Where was the line drawn?

So yesterday a few hours after Bruiser disagreed with THRL's assertion that he was likely processed, Yancy confirmed a graduate transfer TE is on his way to Ole Miss and eligible immediately. Pretty obvious what happened there. Personally, I have no problem with it. Obviously Epps hasn't turned out to be as good as we thought he would be with the snapshot we saw in the MS/Ala game.

I'm not denying that we would process players. We certainly did this past year to make a little extra room for us to sign more in the 2015 signing class.

I'm just saying that I had heard rumblings about Epps's behavior before, so I don't think it was JUST about him not panning out. The fact that he wasn't jumping up the depth chart probably made it easier to move him along though, but I don't think it was just the need for roster space, like some of our other moves this past year.

Faust.... Epps failed multiple drug tests. Freeze suspended him from playing in games all last year, because he failed drug tests last summer. He apparently failed another one this spring and he's now kicked off the team.
Heard he was talented on the field (Scout team, etc). This will be a blow to their program.
Freeze suspended his starting LB (D Nkimdiche) last year for three games for a disorderly conduct charge with the police the previous spring. Suspended Epps for an entire season and now kicked him off the team. He's been as consistent as any other coach in the SEC with his discipline. Maybe not as tough as Richt, but as stern as any other SEC coach. Freeze may be a hayseed and dumb as a brick, but I don't see how you can criticize his discipline.

Wrong Epps...

I think this is the one from Major League 2 and House.
