Why the hell would a ref ever blow that dead. Review would show whether it was a strip or incomplete pass. But if it shows a fumble they just lost out on a TD, if it's incomplete then it simply wouldn't count. Always let the play play out there. ALWAYS, and I'm not a saints fan.

Ref should be terminated, but nothing will happen to him.... they are supposed to let play go on, then review

I agree with the fire Sean post. Sloppy play, penalties, no sense of urgency. Replace with a solid high school coach and switch to the wishbone offense

NO! Keep the refs, the coach and everyone. I like it just the way it went today! LOL

Everyone keeps saying the refs swallow the whistle and let replay sort it out, but I have a problem with that.

What if replay does not show a definitive view? The call by the ref is supposed to stand unless there is irrefutable evidence to overturn. So. Whichever team benefitted from the ref's call has an advantage in replay. If the ref calls a fumble, then the defense has the advantage unless the replay clearly shows an incomplete pass. It's not fair to the offense if the replays aren't clear.

Plus, what if someone had gotten hurt on the fumble return, and then the replay clearly showed an incomplete pass? Then the "swallow your whistle" policy could be hazardous.

I say the ref should call it as he sees it. The ref was wrong in this instance, but he shouldn't be scared to be wrong.

Someone can get hurt on every play in football, it's no different than any other play. The ref shouldn't be scared to be wrong but he should be scared of taking TD's off the board just because thinks he's right. If you're gonna take 6 off the board then you hafta know that you know that you know you're right.

There is no way he knew without a shadow of a doubt he was right. If he knew he was right then why didn't he blow it dead immediately instead of 5-6 secs later when the defender was within 10-15 yards of scoring. He was guessing, no other explanation. Inexcusable. And like I said, I don't have a dog in the race, so no bias in what I saw.

And you probably have never been a referee....

What does that hell does that matter? I've never been an astronaut but I know how far away the ISS, the moon, and the sun are from earth. Never been a chef but I know how to cook.

Thats exactly the way it's been reported to supposed to happen by these other retired refs. Since it didn't happen that way, and this crew was, again reported pre-game, to have been hand picked for this game, we've got to question motives. My personal belief is helicopter theory, but I understand NFL is business before fairplay so I'll swallow my whistle. I don't want to hurt any pure refs out theirs' feelings.
Id rather been beaten than grew up a State and Saints fan if it was my choice now. We have to be the most frustrated football fans out there. Damn!

They can let the play go, huddle up, and then decide to rule it incomplete on the field. They call it like they see it as you say they should but don't take a touchdown off the board.

It's not the same, but I'm a Little League baseball umpire, and we are taught to let the action play out and make corrections afterward if need be. It's a lot easier to tell runners that they have to go back than it is to try and figure out "where they ought to be" if you kill a play too quickly.

Missed the play so I can’t comment on that. All I can say is replay has changed officiating for the worse. They tend to blow the whistle less because they are getting afraid of being wrong.

And we just keep expanding it.

We should just have officials on each camera with a button to signal the guys on the field what the foul was.

It’s coming...

The fact is that he blew the call and cost the Saints six points, and he did it in front a National TV audience. There is too much at stake to let that happen without correction.

As long as officials make mistakes of this magnitude protocols will rightfully be put into place to correct them. Yes it is just one regular season game but at the end of the year you look back and see one game margins in divisions, playoff seeds, etc., and that doesnt begin to cover the fact that a FR and a TD was taken off a player's resume, which could help him get further compensated.

The simple fact is there is too much invested in these games to get momentum turning plays dead wrong, especially when an easy fix (not blowing the whistle) is available.
