I'd rather have the Alvarado guy if he becomes available just because he has a complete game and is a good shooter. But if we get TyTy, then I'd be quite happy having Wheeler as the other PG. The two could compliment each other well with their different styles of play and strengths, both being able to provide something that was seriously lacking last season. Add in Mintz who can log some minutes at the spot as well and we would be pretty secure at PG.

I do believe Wheeler said in an interview that Tyty's decision would not affect his decision.
That's all well and good but a dude starting every game while playing 35mpg at GA is going to be a grumpy teammate if his minutes are more than cut in half, IMHO....or...TYTY will be, if he's playing behind Wheeler.

Crazy times. Until TyTy signs on the line UK can't afford to pass up on Wheeler. With Carr gone to the draft they can't take a chance on missing both of these guys.

Ga Tech trumps Georgia. Prefer Alvarado. But Wheeler would be a nice complimentary piece if Washington comes. Alvarado’s defense would be a great fit.

This guy isn't exactly chopped liver. How much better could this UK team have been last season if we had someone who could do what Wheeler demonstrated multiple times in that video? Yes, I wish he was a 40% three point shooter. But that isn't the only thing that is important. Wayne Turner couldn't shoot very well from deep either, but he could play PG on my team any day.

Put shooters around this kid and you have a deadly offense. Throw in a glass cleaner like Tshiebwe with his relentness. With better players around him his turnover number should be lower. He can get to the rim with ease. Yes, the perimeter shooting is a negative, but his ability to get his teammates the ball is one of the best of the entire portal and can negate some of that. He was also an improved defender.

Well Kentucky/Kansas are on TyTy and Wheeler's lists and I'd think it's situation where Wheeler's been told that both programs are waiting to see what Washington does first.

Some things are going on with each program but from UK perspective they are going to hold off some transfer options until they get word from HS options.

This...

In a perfect world, having both (and both being happy) is ideal.

But it ain't happening....one or the other.

So in your opinion Wheeler and Tyty won't be on the same team?

If they do get Tyty who will be the backup? Mintz? Another option?
Another option--cant speak for others but Wheeler was going to commit somewhere 2 previous times and think schools have just asked him to wait and kind of tells you which way he's likely leaning--but maybe the other options fell through. Jai Lucas spoke with him last week on day he was going to make an announcement. Not sure what was said but he then made a list of 4 and included UK still, so my guess is he was asked to delay any final announcement based on what happens with Washington.

If Tyty goes elsewhere which I hope doesn't happen and believe won't and Wheeler commits to the Cats, let's just say that this board may implode. Just sayin'.

Again which begs the question on who would be the backup. Only one PG on the roster?

Shawn Smith said he was told over the weekend to pay close attention to UK in regards to him.How would you feel about getting him?
I assume TyTy needs a backup. I’d prefer it be Mintz, who can be backup PG 11 mpg, and play off the ball the rest of the time. But if it’s Wheeler, I can live with it.

Sounds like Arizona maybe getting to Washington, so it may be hard to pull him in but Wheeler isn’t a bad backup plan in my opinion.
They just landed a transfer PG the other day and the crystal balls are all UK now except the one ARZ insider that picked ARZ a while back. Everything points to UK and I hope we land TyTy over anyone else right now. I hate to just have a Freshman PG, but if it's Wheeler or TyTy instead of both give me TyTy all day long over a 5ft10 guy.

TyTy and Wheeler can be on the court at the same time.
Wheeler is a true point which we don't have even if we get TyTy.
I think Wheeler compliments the pieces we already have more than Mintz.
SW has a chance to start even with TyTy.
Cal will play the best 5.

Yeah I think another ball-handler, playmaker and good perimeter defender would take precedence over any kind of shooter at this point, assuming we get Tyty. I think Wheeler would be a really good fit now, actually. Although I suspect Kansas has made him a priority right now and will end up with him.

I don't remember where, but read that UK has had Washington's paperwork for a few days now, and that one of the social media announcement edit accounts hinted about having something he couldn't wait to show. Feels like the Cat is in and out of the bag on that one.

Adding another guy who is used to playing gigantic minutes and running the show becomes tricky. I don't know why they'd transfer just to split time and take a lesser role, so I think a returning Mintz is probably best case scenario for a "backup."

Obviously you'd love to add Carr or Alvarado or even Wheeler just to have a talented veteran PG on the team, but that doesn't make much sense from the player's perspective. I think Washington is the most talented, and has the highest upside (also the best fit for what we want to do), so he's the priority.

Granted, some of these are less likely than others. But how would everyone rank the primary PG options for us next year (only get 1 of them): Tyty, Wheeler, Carr, Pippen, Alvarado, McKinnley, others

I don't include Mintz because I think we can return him and add a PG since Mintz is more of a combo-guard.
So I think I would go in order: Alvarado, McKinnley, Pippen, Tyty, Carr, Wheeler

TyTy is Cal’s number 1 pg option, so I’d put him first.
