His performance at Georgia doesn't suggest he will be a good player here, but we might not be in a position to pick and choose. We need players on the team next season.
Well duh. I guess since none of us have the authority to go recruit and sign a player, we'll have to let Cal do it. I mean it's not like a message board is where fans discuss stuff like this. Stop drinking so much Wild Turkey. It's addled your mind. How about you let Cal decide that. If he thinks that’s the best point guard we can get this year, I’m going with his choice, not yours.
I'm sure he is a solid player, but please not us. We need 2 studs at PG and we can't have guys out there who can't shoot anymore, let alone our dam PG. That allows the D to not even go out there to guard him and lets them sag in. Hearing he might come to UK makes me flashback to when I heard we might get BCG as our HC. If he comes I will support him, but not thrilled about a 5ft10 Crean PG who can't shoot.Don't let it be us! Don't let it be us!
Let's hope not.I am betting Wheeler if he comes won't be the only PG Cal brings in.
Ulis shot like 42% from 3 his freshman year. You kind of described a first year Ulis. Height isn't everything, esp at PG. I'd rather have a small quick guy who could penetrate and dish.
How does being 1st in the SEC and 5th in the nation in assists with no support suggest he won’t be good with better players around him? I would say it says exactly the opposite. And oh yeah, he was 2nd team all SEC as a sophomore. His performance at Georgia doesn't suggest he will be a good player here, but we might not be in a position to pick and choose. We need players on the team next season.
Ashton Hagans wasn't 5'10 and Ashton was an absolutely killer defender.I don’t get the hate on this guy... Ashton Hagans was a horrible shooter, but he was one of the best pg in the SEC.... This kid will be a lot better with better players surrounded by him.. I’ll take him and Fredricks..
Pass that blunt over here bc ******* this is a high statement. No chance.I really hope Wheeler comes to Kentucky and turns into the next Tyler Ulis. He has taken so much s**t from everyone in BBN, myself included. We spend every offseason telling ourselves that Kahlil Whitney is the next MKG and EJ Montgomery is the next Anthony Davis. Surely we’re due to have one go the other direction.
You do know that Wheeler averaged 2 steals a game which about the same that Ashton did, don't you?Ashton Hagans wasn't 5'10 and Ashton was an absolutely killer defender.
Probably better... He won't get bullied by the other team pg like tyler always did in big games. This kid looks to be pretty strongPass that blunt over here bc ******* this is a high statement. No chance.
I read an interview and he's going pro after this season. He seems about to leave now.Wheeler would be a 5’9” pg with 3 years of eligibility left. He’s too small for the nba so he would be our pg for 3 years? I can’t imagine cal would recruit such a player
Don't have Hickman anymore.Well all we have now is Hickman.
I see zero pro potential in his highlights. He looks extremely limited due to his size and he doesn’t seem super quick.I read an interview and he's going pro after this season. He seems about to leave now.
My post was transparently presented as wishful thinking. I didn’t think it was possible for someone to miss that and construe it as an actual prediction, but you found a way.Pass that blunt over here bc ******* this is a high statement. No chance.
Of the two, I would rather have Wheeler, because he can come here and play next year, Ulis can't. What Ulis did is history and has nothing to do with next years team. There is no use in bring up what this player or that player did here in the past, it doesn't mean doodley squat. What the team needs is a point guard, and if Wheeler is the best we can get, you should accept it and stop crying about this player and that player were better than him. These players you keep comparing him to,no matter how good they were, they can't help next years team. If Wheeler averaged 7.4 assists a game and was 2nd team all sec, no matter how bad of a shooter he is, he has to be better than last year's point guard. If he is the best that Cal can get, everyone should be welcoming him here, instead of saying over and over that he is too little, he can't shoot, and we don't want him.LOL at anybody suggesting Wheeler is similar to Ulis. Just compare how the players played in conference play as sophomores.
Ulis
19.6 points per 40
56.7 TS%
9 assists per 40
1.5 steals per 40
2 turnovers per 40
Wheeler
15.7 points per 40
48.3 TS%
7.9 assists per 40
1.9 steals per 40
4.6 turnovers per 40
Ulis is far superior to Wheeler in every facet but steals and it cannot be explained by quality of teammates.
Wheeler is not Ulis just because he is short and accrues many assists.
Yes. You are correct. I'm actually in complete agreement with you. What the team needs is a point guard, and if Wheeler is the best we can get, you should accept it and stop crying about this player and that player were better than him. These players you keep comparing him to,no matter how good they were, they can't help next years team. If he is the best that Cal can get, everyone should be welcoming him here, instead of saying over and over that he is too little, he can't shoot, and we don't want him.
I guess we could use him now but I totally agree with youWell all we have now is Hickman.
Let Wheeler play with someone like Murray and then make the comparison. I highly doubt Ulis could carry a team in scoring, rebounding, assists and defense like Wheeler did as far as being the sole focus for the defense.
While staying in front of his man and not constantly gambling trying to pad his steal stats. Hagans was constantly the weak link in the D breaking down and starting the help rotations leading to open shots. You do know that Wheeler averaged 2 steals a game which about the same that Ashton did, don't you?
I don't think the poster was saying that. He was saying that the stat line can't be fairly assessed due to Ulis playing with Murray, a superstar. Wheeler did play one season with Anthony Edwards. That year he did shoot better from 3 and had far less turnovers for what it's worth.Lol there is no Murray on this team. So even if Wheeler comes here, there is no Murray.
I also think he would be a nice addition. The negatives that these posters keep going back to is a product of him having to do too much on a bad team. He will be surrounded by good shooters and strong post play here. That will only boost his positives and decrease the negativesThis drives me crazy, Wheeler is exactly the player we have been asking for. A guy who’s been good for 2 years and is coming back for a junior season. You’re not getting junior John Wall or Brandon Knight. I would take junior Wheeler over any freshman not names Hardy.
We have 2 good shooters on the whole team.I also think he would be a nice addition. The negatives that these posters keep going back to is a product of him having to do too much on a bad team. Roster not complete and actually it is 3, Grady, Allen and MintzWe have 2 good shooters on the whole team.
WV is right, we have 3. Mintz is here until he says otherwise and it’s obvious there is a back up plan for another shooter if he leaves. Three shooters is plenty. Plus much better post offense. We weren’t better than UGA this year but we’ll be much better next year or Cal won’t be here and it won’t matter. We have 2 good shooters on the whole team.
Mintz has not announced and rumors are he is closer to leaving.Roster not complete and actually it is 3, Grady, Allen and Mintz

The thing about Mintz is that he's not holding the program hostage. He and the staff know if he is leaving or not. Same with Brooks IMO. The staff know if there are three shooters or two. The roster will be made up of more than what it looks like right now. There will be more guards and more shooters on this team.Mintz has not announced and rumors are he is closer to leaving.
The only 2 guards we seem to be in good shape with now are Wheeler and Fredrick. If that's all we get we might sneak in the tourney but will do nothing. That won't cut it.The thing about Mintz is that he's not holding the program hostage.
