2010, 2014, 2015. The pain of not adding at least one of these, let alone 2 of these, has hit me super hard today. Cal was so close to being Saban that it makes me so sad :(

Saban recruits like Cal, develops players like Cal, gets kids to check their egos like Cal but he can actually coach the games too.

Dude has guys stay a minimum of 3 years. If cal could do that he would be john wooden right now

Every coach in college bb has the same rules. Just like every coach in college fb has the same rules. It's an excuse given to Cal.

Saban wouldn't recruit this way. He would put the best possible team on the floor to win every year. No way he risks it all on freshman year after year.

I'm cool but I get a bit tired of this myth.

I know why you asked me about rr before th thread got deleted, but if you see who he tags when tagging myself you will see the answer. You will never look at snacks in another light again

Uncode that gibberish then delete it after 5 seconds.

?

The whole “Cal isn’t a good bench coach” is so silly.

Only difference between Cal and Saban, as others have said, is Saban keeps his recruits for 3 or 4 years.

The better team has a better chance to win in football. There is less chance for variation. On top of this, the champ doesn't have to pull off 6 wins in a row. Apples and oranges.

Cal isn't Saban but he's not far off from Saban's basketball version. That's how different the sports are.

They all have the same rules. If only Cal got to keep guys three years sure. If all guys had to stay 3 years Cal wouldn’t even be out coach because Derrick Rose would have still been at Memphis. You can’t have it both ways. Duke would have Kyrie for 3 years. AD would have gone somewhere else instead of backing up Cousins. The whole dynamic changes.

Not necessarily disagreeing but Saban wouldn’t be Saban in college b-ball if recruited at the same level he does now. His teams would a lot like UK in that he’d turn over his roster practically every year. He has an inherit advantage in that kids can’t leave before they actually are in the program 3 years.

Why not add 2011 to the list? All the heavy lifting was already finished and all you had to do was beat a sub par UConn team and a mid-major in the final four.

Honestly 2011, 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2018 weren't any better than a Tubby team in his first 8 years. Thankfully we had a few good bounces that shined a couple of those turds up and Cal being Cal keeps enough attention on us to keep us relevant.

Bagley and Carter are OAD. You’ve seen the last of them after the final game, win or lose the title. For Dook to win it all this year would be a travesty because they are no way in hell the best team in the country, not even close.

Remember that time Saban benched his starting qb at halftime because he wasn't getting it done? Guess he didn't get that 'player first' memo.
