I am cautiously optimistic about it this year. If there is one thing that gives me hope about it not being the same old song and dance, it's Steve Stricker. All the guys on the team and tour really look up to Steve and have a ton of respect for him.
The facts about the Ryder Cup are, we just don't play well as a team and the Euro's do. They embrace TEAM golf. They enjoy TEAM golf. The have fun playing TEAM golf. There is no doubt that almost every year on paper we should throttle them. But our guys don't like playing team, they don't have fun doing it, all they give **** about is themselves. There too busy standing up at the presser podium and saying they don't agree or like their captains decision on the pairings and stupid **** like that. Just 17ing play team golf.
Another thing that hasn't helped is some just outright stupid 17 decisions by our past captains the have led to unnecessary team friction. The list is too long to get into.
The long and short of it is, if they can buy into what Strick is asking them to do, I think you will see a very different looking American team. I know for a fact three weeks ago he told Douchechambo and Brooks to cut the **** out. It's no secret why Strick didn't pick Patrick Reed. He's a 17ing team cancer. He raised a lot of eyebrows by not picking him and at the same time sent a message to the team that this year is different and he's not 17inhg around or putting up with any of that sideshow ********.
